Also, as I noted on Wednesday's Fantasy 15 podcast, I picked up Phillies' rookie Jonathan Pettibone (0.2 percent owned) for Friday in the FOX Sports Experts League as part of an anybody-against-the-Marlins strategy. You don't have to join me, but I'm giving it a try.

• Nationals OF Bryce Harper left Wednesday's game after appearing to injure his left side while checking a swing. It turns out that Harper originally suffered a bruise to the same spot when he crashed into the outfield wall on Tuesday night. The Nats don't seem to think the injury is serious, but Harper might get tonight's game off even if he doesn't want to.

• The A's placed OF Coco Crisp (hamstring) and SP Brett Anderson (ankle) on the DL. Congratulations to all those who had May 1 in the "When will Anderson go on the DL?" pool. Dan Straily will again (still?) replace Anderson in the rotation, while the A's have plenty of outfielders - assuming that Chris Young's quad injury is a short-termer - to cover Crisp's absence.
• Blue Jays SPs R.A. Dickey (neck) and Josh Johnson (triceps) are on track to make their respective starts this weekend. I get the sense that some of you are getting impatient with Dickey. Don't sell him for 50 cents on the dollar, OK? If his neck gets better, he'll snap out of this funk.
• The Brewers expect to get 3B Aramis Ramirez back from the DL on Friday, and will shift slugger Yuniesky Betancourt to regular duty at first base.
• The Tigers have sent rookie reliever Bruce Rondon back to the minors.
• The Red Sox hope to get OF Shane Victorino back in the lineup on Friday, but the DL is still a possibility.
• Cubs SP Matt Garza (lat) might be two rehab starts away from his 2013 debut.
• The Rockies are targeting a Sunday return for 1B Todd Helton. 
• Marlins SS Adeiny Hechavarria will return from the DL this weekend. That lineup is going to be loaded!
• Trevor Bauer shut out the Phillies over five innings last night, giving up just one hit and ... six walks. Ugh.
• The Yankees acquired 2B/3B Chris Nelson from the Rockies, and he'll serve as a utility infielder. He's probably not even useful in AL-only formats.
• The Pirates will probably get SP Francisco Liriano back from the DL within 10 days. Let's all agree not to pick up Liriano if he throws five scoreless innings in his first game. We know that won't end well, right?

• Why is closer Edward Mujica pitching so well for the Cardinals? Maybe it's his split-finger changeup.

Today's choice is San Diego's Andrew Cashner (owned in 4.7 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the Cubs, while Thursday's selection is Philly's Kyle Kendrick (29.1 percent owned) versus the Marlins. If you like to stream starters, you need to chase the Marlins every chance you get. Their lineup was pretty horrendous before Giancarlo Stanton got hurt.

• The sometimes brittle Carl Crawford was scratched from Tuesday's game due to a tight hamstring, and Dodgers manager Don Mattingly suggested that Crawford might get today off as well. Crawford has played pretty well so far, so be happy that Mattingly is being careful with him.
• In other Dodger news, Hanley Ramirez started at shortstop and hit a homer. Start him if you've got him, fantasy owners.

• After blown save No. 4 for J.J. Putz, Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said he wasn't ready to discuss a possible closer change. I'm ready to discuss it, and I think it's time to stash setup man David Hernandez (2.1 percent owned) if you have the roster space.
• Giancarlo Stanton's hamstring injury is pretty bad. The team's website says the "best-case scenario" has Stanton returning in 3-4 weeks.
• Joel Hanrahan is off the DL, but Andrew Bailey is still the Red Sox' closer.
• After worrying millions of fantasy owners with murmurs of forearm tightness on Monday, Stephen Strasburg and his "structurally perfect" right arm are expected to make their next scheduled start on Saturday.
• As expected, the Angels placed OF Peter Bourjos on the DL with a strained hamstring. The moderately speedy J.B. Shuck took Bourjos' place in the outfield on Tuesday, and could be worth an AL-only look if he stays in the lineup. On the bright side, the Angels got Erick Aybar back from the DL last night.
• No surprise here: The Yankees finally placed 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) on the DL. Last night, the Yanks went with the fearsome duo of Eduardo Nunez and Jayson Nix on the left side of their infield. In other Yankee injury news, 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) isn't expected back before the end of May.
• White Sox 3B Jeff Keppinger (back spasms) hopes to return to the lineup tonight or tomorrow.
• You need to see this home run that Edwin Encarnacion hit last night. Colossal. Titanic. Oh. My. Goodness.
• Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski was scratched last night due to an oblique injury, and he might not play tonight, either.

Dig a little deeper, and you'll find Daniel Nava (29.6 percent owned), Nate McLouth (28.9 percent owned), Lucas Duda (8.9 percent owned), Justin Ruggiano (4 percent owned) and speedy Juan Pierre (2.6 percent owned).
• Stephen Strasburg felt some forearm tightness last night, and the Nationals aren't sure if he'll make his next start, though Strasburg insists that he will. Don't panic yet if you own Strasburg, but say a prayer and light some candles today.
• Why would the Dodgers activate Hanley Ramirez if they weren't ready to start him right away? Heck if I know, but Ramirez might be in the lineup tonight, and he'll be playing with a splint on his injured thumb (which isn't yet 100 percent) for a little while. Keep Ramirez on your fantasy bench for a few more days doesn't sound like a bad idea.
• Remember last week, when we all talked about how getting an appendix out was no big deal? Not so for Braves OF Jason Heyward, who might not be back in the lineup for a few more weeks. This recalls memories of the fall of 1986, when a young John Halpin was sidelined from his senior year of high school for a month after his appendix almost burst.
• The A's may have won last night's game, but the cost is TBD. Outfielders Coco Crisp and Chris Young both left the game with hamstring injuries, and details weren't available when this blog entry was posted. 
• The Angels lost an outfielder of their own with a hamstring injury. Peter Bourjos' status is TBD.
• Trevor Bauer will make his next start for the Indians on Wednesday. Bauer has been pitching well at Triple A - let's see if he can throw some strikes tomorrow.
• Jayson Werth's owners should watch the Nats' lineup in daily leagues, as he's been dealing with a hamstring issue and followed that up by fouling a ball off his ankle last night.

On the Doubront pick: He's got 21 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings so far. The Astros have whiffed 218 times - 24 more than any other team - in 22 games. Good match, right?

• Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz is on track to return from his 25-game PED suspension on Sunday. Ruiz is owned in just 21.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and while he probably won't hit 16 home runs again, he's a solid BA guy who is in the low-end No. 1 fantasy catcher discussion in mixed leagues. • Ruiz's teammate, OF Ben Revere, might miss one more game with a sore quad.
• After missing a few weeks with neck issues, Mets SP Shaun Marcum (29.5 percent owned) will make his first start of the season on Saturday. Marcum will never be your staff anchor, but has a 3.76 career ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a slightly above average K rate. You could do worse when searching for a free agent starter.
• The Red Sox called up Ryan Lavarnway? YES! I love that guy. What's that? He's probably heading back to the minors when John Lackey gets activated? Bummer.
• Carlos Marmol got last night's save for the Cubs, giving up a hit and a walk but no runs. That's progress, I guess. This is still a committee situation, so don't get too excited.
• According to the Denver Post, Jordan Pacheco will "likely get the bulk of the playing time at first base" while Todd Helton (forearm) is on the DL.
• The Dodgers plan to juggle starts at third base between Jerry Hairston Jr., Nick Punto and Juan Uribe.

• Read this and tell me how much Astros manager Bo Porter likes rookie OF Robbie Grossman. It's hard to say if Grossman will stick around when Justin Maxwell returns from the DL, but AL-only owners should check him out. He's a decent power/speed guy who knows how to get on base.
• This Angels update notes that SS Erick Aybar might come off the DL as soon as this weekend, but reports that Ryan Madson's rehab is going slowly.

After just three A-ball appearances, Jose Valverde has been called up and installed as the Tigers' closer. Will Valverde be any good? Heck if I know. He was pretty mediocre last season, and we really don't have much evidence of a rebound (or lack of one) so far in 2013. But if a manager says someone is his closer, then he's worth picking up, and Valverde is currently available in 95.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues.

With that said, at least half the teams in the majors have closers who appear at risk of losing their jobs at some point, and Valverde is on the risky end of that spectrum. This is how you play the wire for closers - grab guys hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, and move on if things don't work out. Valverde might get 30 saves, or he might implode quickly. I'll be keeping an eye on rookie Bruce Rondon - who also got called up on Tuesday - and my man Al Alburquerque. It's pretty clear that the Tigers don't want Joaquin Benoit to close, right?

Who's off: Twins, Marlins

First pitch: There are 12:35 p.m. starts in both leagues, and eight afternoon games overall. Set your lineups early!

Streaming starters: A nice job by Carlos Villanueva raised our streaming starter record to 12-8 for the season. • Mets SP Jon Niese left Tuesday's game after getting hit in the leg by a comebacker. X-rays were negative, and Niese seems to think he'll make his next start. Stay tuned.
• Astros OF Justin Maxwell has been placed on the DL with a fractured bone in his left hand (he got hit by a pitch last night). The Houston Chronicle reports that Brandon Barnes figures to assume most of Maxwell's playing time in center field, and he's worth a pickup in AL-only leagues. Barnes had 13 homers and 22 stolen bases between the minors and majors last season.
• Braves OF Justin Upton hit his 11th home run of the season in the second game of last night's doubleheader. If you own Upton, be bold, and explore the trade market for him now. You might get an offer you can't refuse.
• Best thing about the Cubs-Reds game? Carlos Marmol blew the save (he walked two, predictably) in the ninth inning, and Kevin Gregg got the save in the 10th. The Cubs say they'll use matchups in the ninth for now, and even though Kyuji Fujikawa will probably get the job when he comes off the DL, I wouldn't blame you if you took a flier on Gregg.
• Kevin Youkilis (back) hopes to be back in the Yankee lineup tonight, but Thursday looks more likely. Teammate Mark Teixeira (wrist) won't be ready to come off the DL on May 1 as hoped, but could still return later in the month.
• What are the three scariest words that can appear in an article about a pitcher? DOCTOR JAMES ANDREWS. Orioles prospect Dylan Bundy got a second opinion from Dr. Andrews on Tuesday regarding his nagging forearm soreness, and let's hope the news is good.
• John Lackey is on target to come off the DL and pitch Sunday for the Red Sox.
• As feared, Dodgers SP Chad Billingsley will have Tommy John surgery. We'll see him again sometime in 2014.
• The Cardinals are trying to keep 1B Matt Adams (oblique) off the DL, but don't expect to see him play until at least Friday.

After just three A-ball appearances, Jose Valverde has been called up and installed as the Tigers' closer. Will Valverde be any good? Heck if I know. He was pretty mediocre last season, and we really don't have much evidence of a rebound (or lack of one) so far in 2013. But if a manager says someone is his closer, then he's worth picking up, and Valverde is currently available in 95.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues.

With that said, at least half the teams in the majors have closers who appear at risk of losing their jobs at some point, and Valverde is on the risky end of that spectrum. This is how you play the wire for closers - grab guys hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, and move on if things don't work out. Valverde might get 30 saves, or he might implode quickly. I'll be keeping an eye on rookie Bruce Rondon - who also got called up on Tuesday - and my man Al Alburquerque. It's pretty clear that the Tigers don't want Joaquin Benoit to close, right?

Who's off: Twins, Marlins

Two snowouts on April 22? Seriously?

First pitch: The Marlins and Twins get their inter league doubleheader started at 2:10 p.m. ET. Today's other doubleheader - Braves-Rockies - starts at 3:10.

Interleague DH issues: With the Twins throwing two righthanders against the Marlins, OF Chris Coghlan seems like the logical choice to join the lineup in the DH spot.

Streaming starters: Mike Leake was pretty good against the Cubs, raising our streaming starter record to 11-8. Today's pick is Carlos Villanueva (owned in 29.7 FOXSports.com leagues) versus the Reds, while Wednesday's selection - there aren't a lot of good options - is Houston's Lucas Harrell (0.9 percent owned) at home against the Mariners. Harrell has been walking too many people so far, but I liked him coming into the season.

On to the news:

• Braves OF Jason Heyward will be out indefinitely after undergoing an appendectomy in Denver on Monday. If everything went as planned, figure that Heyward will go on the 15-day DL and miss the minimum amount of time. Talking Chop thinks the Braves should use Reed Johnson and Jordan Schafer to replace Heyward, with Evan Gattis possibly getting some outfield duty as well.

• After last night's outing, Cardinals rookie SP Shelby Miller is 3-1 with a 2.16 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP and 26 strikeouts against seven walks in 25 innings. He's still available in 27.4 percent of FOXSports.com leagues.
• FYI, Ed Mujica saved Miller's win. Manager Mike Matheny has talked about a committee recently, but according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Matheny has "fixed on (Trevor) Rosenthal in the eighth and Mujica in the ninth." We're all subject to the whims of the manager when it comes to closers, right? Mujica is still available in 93.6 percent of FOXSports.com leagues.
• Brett Myers (elbow) is expected to miss a month for the Indians. Do you care? Me neither.
• Phillies SP Jonathan Pettibone made a solid impression in his big-league debut last night. The book on Pettibone is that his stuff is just OK, and "No. 4 starter" is often used to describe him. That's not a bad thing, but it's a warning to anyone who started salivating after seeing last night's boxscore.
• Zach Britton might get the call to start Wednesday for the Orioles in the wake of Jake Arrieta's demotion to the minors. I'll be keeping an eye on Britton for AL-only leagues, though I'm getting tired of waiting for him to get better.
• Will Joel Hanrahan resume closing duties when he returns to the Red Sox sometime next week? Maybe.
• Here's an interesting article from Purple Row on Rockies C Wilin Rosario not seeing any fastballs.
• Angels SS Erick Aybar is hoping to come off the DL on Thursday.
• Kyle Lohse's dislocated left pinkie shouldn't cause him to miss any time for the Brewers.
• Mets SP Shaun Marcum appears on target to make his first start of the season on Saturday. Unless you're in a deep league, there's no need to rush to the free-agent pool to grab Marcum. He's not bad, but not great, either.
• Yankees 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) was scratched last night, and might miss a couple more days, according to manager Joe Girardi.
• Padres OF Carlos Quentin returns from his Greinke-beating suspension tonight.
• Franklin Gutierrez is hurt again? Sigh. Endy Chavez will probably get more playing time if/when Gutierrez goes on the DL.
• Jose Valverde Watch, Day 4: Papa Grande struck out the side while allowing one hit in last night's outing for Lakeland.
• "I don't care if (Anthony Rendon) hits .900, he's not going to beat out Ryan Zimmerman." So said Nationals manager Davey Johnson on Monday. That shouldn't surprise anyone, but it's a reminder to anyone in a redraft league: Don't get excited about Rendon, because he'll be in the minors again soon.
• This article on Adam Dunn by Dave Cameron at FanGraphs is eight days old, but a good read nonetheless if you're wondering what's wrong with Dunn. I'd be patient if I owned him, but with his 2011 stats in mind, his leash wouldn't be too long.

• With Freddie Freeman returning from the DL tonight, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez says he's going to abandon his third-base platoon and play Chris Johnson every day. Sorry, Juan Francisco.
• With 3B Ryan Zimmerman on the DL due to a hamstring injury, the Nationals have promoted top prospect Anthony Rendon. Should you grab Rendon in a non-keeper format? Eh, maybe for this week. The talented 22-year-old has shown tremendous ability to get on base, but not much power yet. Also, Zimmerman is expected to be out for the minimum 15 days, meaning that he's targeting a return next weekend.
• Why did Wilton Lopez blow a save for the Rockies on Sunday? Because Rafael Betancourt had pitched on four of the previous five days. Nothing to see here.
• Dayan Viciedo's oblique strain might keep him out longer than 15 days. The White Sox used Jordan Danks and Dewayne Wise to replace Viciedo in the lineup over the weekend, and either one can be considered for emergency duty in AL-only leagues. If you want to gamble on a little bit of upside, try Danks. Wise might steal a few bases, but we already know he's a crummy hitter.
• Yankees 1B Kevin Youkilis rested with back tightness on Sunday, but he'll probably play against Matt Moore and the Rays tonight.
• With Chad Billingsley (elbow) on the DL for what figures to be an extended period, the Dodgers will start lefties Clayton Kershaw, Ted Lilly and Hyun-Jin Ryu against the Mets this week. Don't they know John Buck is waiting for them?
• The Astros made a Martinez swap this weekend, with J.D. (knee) heading to the DL, and Fernando being called up from the minors. Fernando swings at everything, but he has some power (19 HR between Triple A and MLB last season), and at 24 he's not far removed from being a highly-regarded prospect. AL-only owners might want to check his availability.
• Speaking of prospects, the Red Sox called up SP Allen Webster to pitch against the Royals in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader. Webster pitched well, but he'll head back to the minors right away.
• The Indians placed SP Brett Myers (elbow) on the DL. Zzz ...
• With Ryan Hanigan (oblique) on the DL, Devin Mesoraco takes over as the Reds' starting catcher. There's some pop in Mesoraco's bat, if you like that sort of thing.
• The A's seem to think that Brett Anderson (ankle) will be able to make his next start on Wednesday.
• Mitchell Boggs isn't the Cardinals' closer anymore, but he's still getting knocked around.
• Ouch! Rays SS prospect Hak-Ju Lee is probably done for the season due to a knee injury. 
• Jose Valverde pitched on Friday and Saturday for the A-ball Lakeland Tigers, and walked a batter in each outing. Meanwhile, Al Alburquerque whiffed five batters in two innings for the Tigers on Sunday, giving him 16 Ks versus four walks in nine innings so far this season. I'm just saying ...

Saturday's pick is Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo (8.6 percent owned) against the Marlins, and Sunday's choice is Milwaukee's Wily Peralta (0.5 percent owned) against the Cubs.

• Yankees SS Derek Jeter has a fracture in his surgically repaired ankle and will be out until at least the All-Star break. If you own Jeter, you've already got a replacement, but this development gives Jeter's real-life stand-in, Eduardo Nunez (1.4 percent owned), more sustained value. Grab Nunez if you need some steals, and hope that he doesn't make enough errors to lose the job. He hasn't been a butcher so far, but there's still time.

• Look for DH David Ortiz to be back in the Red Sox lineup tonight. Struggling rookie Jackie Bradley Jr. has been sent to the minors to make room for Ortiz on the roster. I bet we'll see Bradley again this summer.
• Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey pitched well last night, but was removed after six innings because of neck and back tightness. Dickey doesn't seem to think it's serious, but stay tuned. 
• Is everyone excited about the Stephen Strasburg-Matt Harvey matchup at CitiField tonight? I'd be really fired up if I wasn't in the Nationals' MLB blackout territory. 
• Speaking of the Mets, catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud suffered a fractured bone in his left foot on Wednesday. We should learn more about his recovery timetable this weekend.
• Remember how good Mike Fiers was last season? After one bad start and a couple of skipped turns, the Brewers have sent him to the minors.
• Ed Mujica (3.2 percent owned) got a save for the Cardinals last night. Andrew Bailey (21.5 percent owned) got one for the Red Sox. If you're playing the short-term closer free agent game, go get one of these guys, but don't get too attached.
• Not a bad first start for Reds SP Tony Cingrani. Remember: It was the Marlins.
• The Marlins have placed SS Adeiny Hechavarria (elbow) on the DL.
• The Astros sent Brett Wallace to the minors already? I guess that'll happen when you start the season with 17 strikeouts in 24 at bats.
• The Phillies have dropped OF Ben Revere to the seventh spot in the batting order. That won't hurt his SB totals as much as the eighth spot would, but it's not a great development for his chances to score runs.
• In other Phillies' news, keep an eye on Domonic Brown's day-to-day status, as he didn't start last night due to back soreness.
• White Sox OF Dayan Viciedo left last night's game with an oblique strain. Viciedo doesn't seem to think it's serious, but players always say that about oblique strains, and they always seem to end up on the DL. There's your expert medical opinion for today.
• Braves 1B Freddie Freeman will play rehab games in Charlotte tonight and tomorrow, with an eye toward a Monday return from the DL. Should I buy tickets to watch Freeman, or go to my daughter's gymnastics practice and then try to get a pirated feed of Nats-Mets? Hmm ...

Friday's selection is Pittsburgh's Wandy Rodriguez (11.2 percent owned) versus the Braves.

• As noted earlier this week, Reds rookie lefty Tony Cingrani will make his first big-league start tonight against the Marlins. Even if Cingrani pitches well, temper your expectations. He's not a big "stuff" guy, and not many people seem to think he'll be anything close to an ace, so don't throw a good pitcher overboard to get him. Also, it's the Marlins, for crying out loud. Yes, I know I'm being a wet blanket. On the bright side, I can see the logic of streaming him against the Marlins tonight.

• Speaking of the Marlins, OF Giancarlo Stanton (shoulder) is expected to return tonight after a six-day absence.
• Indians 2B Jason Kipnis is expected to miss one more game with a sore left elbow, with the hopes of returning to the lineup on Friday.
• Padres OF Cameron Maybin is on the DL with a wrist injury, and manager Bud Black says "there's a chance it could be more than a couple of weeks." The Padres went with Chris Denorfia in center field last night, and Will Venable will get some time there as well.
• Need a Maybin replacement? Jon Jay (owned in 12.4 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) is widely available, as are speedy Emilio Bonifacio (6.3 percent owned) and Justin Ruggiano (3.8 percent owned). Venable (1.4 percent owned) and Denorfia (0.9 percent owned) might still be options in your NL-only league.
• Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) has been cleared to start swinging a bat, and still hopes to return in early May.
• Nationals manager Davey Johnson thinks 2B Danny Espinosa (hand/wrist) has a 50-50 chance to return to the lineup on Friday.
• You can't rush back spasms, which is why Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista is still day-to-day.
• Dodgers SP Chris Capuano (calf) is on the DL. Ted Lilly is likely to be activated to take Capuano's rotation slot next Wednesday.

A couple more prominent fantasy baseball producers hit the disabled list this week.  Cleveland's Michael Bourn was placed on the 15-day DL a few days after he was spiked by Chicago's Matt Thornton as he slid into first.  Arizona's Aaron Hill will miss the next four-to-six weeks with a broken hand.

Here are my top three waiver wire options to replace Bourn and Hill:

Widely-available fantasy replacements for Bourn:

Starling Marte (PIT) - The starting left fielder for the Pirates is hitting .370 with 10 runs scored, eight RBI and two stolen bases.  He's available in over 50 percent of all leagues on FS.com

Jon Jay (STL) - He's hitting .263 with two home runs, 13 runs scored and eight RBI.  He's available in 88 percent of all leagues on FS.com

A.J. Pollock (ARI) - Pollack earned some early-season playing time with Adam Eaton on the shelf.  He's hitting over .300 with two home runs, six doubles, seven RBI and five runs scored.  He's available in nearly all FS.com fantasy baseball leagues.

Widely-available fantasy replacements for Hill:

Chris Getz (KC) - A sneaky second baseman for the Kansas City Royals.  Getz is hitting .300 with a home run (don't expect a ton) with 10 runs scored and six RBI.  There's a good chance he's floating on the waiver wire.

Eric Sogard (OAK) - Greg Maddux's lovechild, Sogard has put together a solid five-game stretch.  His batting average is up over .300 with a handful of runs, a few RBI and a couple stolen bases.

Neil Walker (PIT) - I was just surprised to learn his slow start in 2013 bumped his ownership percentage down to 60 percent.  For owners who lost Hill, I'd take a gamble on him.

Streaming starters: Derek Holland threw eight scoreless innings for us last night, raising the streaming starter record to 6-7. Today's pick is Oakland's Bartolo Colon (owned in 2.5 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the Astros, while Thursday's selection is Colorado's Jhoulys Chacin (27.7 percent owned) versus the Mets on what is forecasted to be a 36-degree day at Coors Field.

• It sounds like 3B Chase Headley (thumb) will return to the Padres' lineup tonight against the Dodgers, though there's an outside chance he'll sit for one more game. If we get confirmation today from the Padres on Headley's return, start him if you have him.

• Indians OF Michael Bourn is on the DL with a finger injury. Bourn received five stitches in his right index finger on Sunday, when he tried to slide into first base and got stepped on by White Sox RP Matt Thornton. The guess here is that Bourn will return as soon as he's eligible.
• In other Indians' news, Scott Kazmir is expected to make his first start of the season on Saturday, while 2B Jason Kipnis (elbow) hopes to return to the lineup tonight. Looking at Kazmir's career path, he's sort of the poor man's, southpaw version of Ubaldo.
• Andrew Bailey will close for the Red Sox while Joel Hanrahan (hamstring) is on the DL. Bailey is available in 88.6 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and you should grab him if you can. • Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (shoulder) missed his fifth consecutive game on Tuesday, and his status for tonight sounds iffy. Plan to keep Stanton on your bench in daily leagues unless you see a lineup with his name in it.
• Brian McCann's wrist issues might cause a slight delay in his rehab from offseason shoulder surgery. Evan Gattis' fantasy owners will surely be excited devastated by this news.
• The Nationals might give sick outfielders Bryce Harper and Denard Span one more day off.
• Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista is still day-to-day with back spasms.
• Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a broken hand. The D-backs called up rookie SS Didi Gregorius to take Hill's roster spot, but he's more glove than bat. The most interesting effect here is that Martin Prado played second base last night; watch his status to see if he gains eligibility there in your league.
• The lack of lineup protection in New York seems to be really hurting Robinson Cano (.327 BA, 4 HR, 1.042 OPS).
• Angels RP Ryan Madson (elbow) has his eye on a May 1 return. Madson might not get the closer gig right away, but Ernesto Frieri's penchant for walks always makes him risky. Madson is owned in 18.5 percent of FOXSports.com leagues - grab and stash him if you can.
• With Darin Mastroianni on the DL due to a fractured ankle, Twins OF Aaron Hicks gets a reprieve from what appeared to be a looming demotion. If only he can stop striking out in every other at bat, he'll help you. Rookie Oswaldo Arcia is back to take Mastroianni's roster spot, and might get some playing time.
• Phillies C Carlos Ruiz is scheduled to return from his suspension on April 28.
• Did you pick up Barry Zito after his hot start and put him in your lineup yesterday? If so ... sorry to hear that. You know he hasn't had an ERA under 4.00 since 2006, right?
