Edmonton Elks Sign Former NFL First-Round Pick
USA TODAY Sports

The Edmonton Elks are focused on bringing in new players to the roster who can help put pressure on the quarterback. They turned to a former first-round pick in the NFL Draft to do so, signing defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche.

Nkemdiche was the 29th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He would spend three seasons with Arizona before being waived in 2019. The Miami Dolphins signed him for a short time during the season before being cut in November of the same year. He would have two other short stops with the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers in 2021 and 2022.

His NFL stats include 59 tackles, 4.5 sacks, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one touchdown in 59 games.

Before the pros, Nkemdiche was a star defensive player in college at Ole Miss for three seasons. He racked up 41 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and six sacks. During the 2015 seasons with the Rebels, Nkemdiche was named first-team All-SEC and second-team All-American.

His last stop before the CFL was in the USFL with the Michigan Panthers. He was released in early April.

Edmonton added two other defensive linemen recently in Keyshon Camp and Trevon Mason.
