2024 WNBA Draft: Angel Reese teaming up with familar foe at the next level

With their selection, the Sky are gaining one of the most intense competitors in all of women’s basketball, and one who can stuff a stat sheet when given the opportunity. As a senior in 2023-24, the star forward did just about everything for the Tigers, averaging 18.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.0 block per game.

Notably, Reese wasn’t the only top-10 selection Chicago had in today’s 2024 WNBA Draft. With the third overall pick, the Sky selected South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso.

Standing at 6-foot-7, the Montes Claros, BR, product was one of the most difficult players to stop during this past women’s college basketball season en route to an eventual national championship victory. Interestingly enough, that national championship run just so happened to involve two wins over Angel Reese and LSU.

However, that’s all in the past, and now the duo will pair up to potentially combine for an absolute force down low for a Chicago team that could use some extra dominance in the middle of the paint.

Finally, with their third selection in the 2024 WNBA Draft, the Sky selected shooting guard Brynna Maxwell with the 13th overall pick. Standing at 6-foot, the Gonzaga guard was one of the most lethal three-point shooters in the entire draft, having shot the ball 42.7 percent over the course of her five year career.

The upcoming WNBA season is just one month away, and the Chicago Sky will kick things off against the Dallas Wings on May 15, at 7:00 p.m. CST. If both players can make the 2024 roster, there’s little doubt that plenty of South Carolina and LSU fans alike will be flooding in to watch Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese teaming up for the first time in years.
