Trevor Etienne Takes Shot at Florida Gators Football After Transferring to Georgia
USA TODAY Sports

After transferring to Georgia from Florida this past offseason, star running back Trevor Etienne had a chance to reveal the thought process behind his decision. He spent two seasons with the Gators before deciding to enter the portal and make his way to Athens.

Etienne joined Real Talk with Tate Ratedge to take the opportunity to open up about the move. The running back totaled 1,400 rushing yards in two seasons with the Gators, though he could have had more if given the right opportunity.

Montrell Johnson was the Gators' leading rusher, despite Etienne's ability to rush the ball. Johnson remained the RB1 for the Gators, which led to Etienne deciding to enter the transfer portal.

“For me, it was like, does the good outweigh the bad?” Etienne said on the show. “I’ve been with Florida for two years. I went through that whole process of rebuilding, it’s kind of still rebuilding. I felt like there was a lot of uncertainty, so like, a lot of questions were unanswered. There’s a lot of unknown going on. I felt like, I can stay here and do what I’ve been doing for another year or two, or bet on myself and take a chance somewhere else."

Etienne immediately gets an opportunity to compete for an SEC Championship while also nearly getting a guaranteed bid in the 12-team College Football Playoffs in the upcoming season. If he's the RB1 on the team that makes the playoffs, and will likely make a deep run with a shot at a National Championship, that looks a lot better for Etienne rather than being the RB2 in a 6- or 7-win team.

“Pretty much to sum it up, it was like, I can either be Running Back 2 on a losing team, or go somewhere – I wanted to play in December, too. That also played a big part in me transferring. So I said, I can stay Running Back 2 on a losing team or go somewhere and possibly be Running Back 1 and win a natty.”

The new opportunity poses a big one for Etienne, who averages 5.9 rushing yards per attempt over the course of his two-year career.
