The Denton (TX) Guyer grad is grateful for committing early in the recruiting cycle to build deep bond with Syracuse

Offensive Tackle Willie Goodacre has been committed to Syracuse since June, but still wanted to be part of the festivities last weekend with National Signing Day looming.

The 6-5, 300 lbs o-lineman had upwards of 23 scholarship offers according to 247Sports, before placing Syracuse in his top two schools with Kansas. Goodacre made his official visit on June 16th before heading to Lawrence a week later. The trip to Kansas couldn’t top Central New York, and Goodacre became the SU’s 15th recruit of the 2024 class.

A lot has changed internally in the program over the last six months, but Goodacre remained dedicated that Syracuse would be his next home. Even with a new coaching staff coming in,

the Guyer high school product knows that this regime is putting the program in the best place to succeed.

“This visit was definitely more eccentric than my last one," Goodacre said. "From the hibachi and cars inside the Dome, those are things that Syracuse has never really had before in recruiting. This coaching staff is living up to what they said they were coming here to do. The weekend was extremely detailed and they hold themselves accountable to be great leaders of men in everything they do."

Goodacre spoke very highly of new head coach Fran Brown and his plans for the future. He knows that entering a program with someone like coach Brown at the helm will make him progress as a player and a man.

“Coach Brown does things different than other coaches," Goodacre said. "Not just in the recruiting aspect, but he comes from a program that knows how to win, and that takes care of a lot of problems. But the discipline he has as a man with character just shows that he wants what is best for us."

The three-star recruit also stressed the positive interactions he had with current players at recruits in the offensive line room. Goodacre spent a bulk of his time this weekend with fellow OL commit Noah Rosahac. The duo have built a great rapport with one another have strong familiarity already before their freshman season even begins. Redshirt sophomore Enrique Cruz was Goodacre’s player host throughout the visit and commended Cruz for his role in the weekend.

“[Enrique] did a great job showing me the ropes," Goodacre said. "It never felt like I was coming to see everything on a visit because he made me feel part of it already. Honestly, it just felt like two guys in the o-line room spending time together."

Syracuse has been successful in the last few weeks with their official visits getting recruits to transfer in or commit. With less than 24 hours until the early signing window opens for incoming freshman, Goodacre is excited to become a member of the Orange.

“When the clock hits eight I immediately changed everything in my bios to say Syracuse… when John Wildhack said that we are a program on the rise, we really do mean that. We are going to work for it and I can’t wait to get started,” Goodacre said.
