20 actors who performed their own stunts

Daniel Stern played the Wet Bandit (who isn’t Joe Pesci) in Home Alone and performed his stunts in both films. Stern had a spider on his face in the first film. In the second film, one of his climbing stunts went awry, and Stern ended up banged and bruised from it.

Sigourney Weaver’s stunt history is quite impressive. Director Ridley Scott made Weaver perform her own stunts in Alien, and since then, it’s been common practice for the actor to go sans stunt double. Recently, Weave performed a slew of underwater stunts for the Avatar sequel. 

Adam Driver took his role as Kylo Ren seriously. He took it so seriously that he chose to perform his own stunts, and the preparation required hours and hours of intense training. The stunt coordinator noted that working with Driver was a unique experience thanks to their different approaches in stunt work (h/t CBR).  

Is there anything Zendaya can’t do? The actor performed her own trapeze work in the movie musical The Greatest Showman, and it must’ve unlocked new skills in her because she’s also performed her own stunts for Euphoria. 

Keanu Reeves didn’t perform all of his own stunts for John Wick, but the overwhelming majority were his efforts. He kept the trend going for the John Wick sequels. In the fourth installment, he performed all of the car stunts. 

Margot Robbie impressed those around her on set by performing her own fight sequences as Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey. The actor has proved herself to be physically fit on multiple movie sets, even winning a plank challenge among the actors in the Barbie movie (h/t Men's Health).

Jackie Chan has performed so many of his own stunts that there are rankings of which ones were the most dangerous. Chan has scaled buildings and fought on top of moving vehicles. He even told Yahoo Entertainment that an Armour Of God stunt almost took his life.

Most actors don’t perform their stunts because there’s a huge risk of serious injury, and the actors who routinely perform their stunts are quite familiar with this. Daniel Craig has done loads of his own stunts as James Bond, and he’s suffered multiple injuries from his efforts. 

Charlize Theron has nothing to prove as an actor, but she’s still finding inspiration from other actors and pushing herself in new ways. Inspired by Keanu Reeves’ stunt work in the John Wick series and The Matrix series, Theron decided to perform her own stunts in The Old Guard, as she told Howard Stern.

The Charlie’s Angels reboot wasn’t as successful as the original film series, but it did boast plenty of impressive fight scenes, some of which were performed by the actors themselves. Ella Balinska, a trained athlete, filmed her own stunt sequences in the film, showing off the skills she gained from years of track and field experience. 

Harrison Ford has famously performed his own stunts as Indiana Jones since the series began, and he won’t stop performing as many of them as he can. The actor filmed the most recent installment of the series in his early eighties, and while a stunt double did some of the work, much of it was performed by Ford. 

Angelina Jolie is a brave actor. Jolie was game to perform as many stunts as she could for Salt, so many so that the producers of the film had to dissuade her from attempting to perform some that were too dangerous. Some of her stunt work for Salt even landed her in the hospital. 

Tom Cruise is an action actor through and through. The four-time Oscar nominee has long performed his own stunts, and he clearly has no intention of stopping any time soon as he performed his own stunts in the 2023 installment of the Mission: Impossible series. 

It should come as no surprise that Jason Statham performs his own stunts. He takes his action-flick performances very seriously. The star impressed everyone when they learned that Statham was the body behind the stunt work in Crank, all of which seemed more dangerous than the last.

Much of Jamie Lee Curtis’ character’s stunt work in True Lies was performed by a stunt double, but certain shots required Curtis to step up to the plate — and that she did. On an anniversary of the film, Curtis shared a behind-the-scenes photo of herself dangling from the helicopter in one of the movie’s most famous scenes. 

Batman standing on top of a tower in The Dark Knight was actually Christian Bale standing on top of the Sears Tower in Chicago. Bale performed other stunts as Batman, though he spoke with British GQ about not necessarily needing to continue to perform his own stunts as he ages. 

Michelle Rodriguez will always give credit where credit is due. The actor has performed many of her own stunts throughout her career, but not all of them, and she’ll share exactly who performed her stunts as she holds great admiration for stunt performers. 

Tom Holland is trained in acrobatics and gymnastics, and he used his experience to perform his own stunts in Spider-Man: Far from Home. The actor performed his own stunts in the film Uncharted, too, making him one of the most surprising actors to do their own stunt work. 

Chloë Grace Moretz was just a teenager when she filmed Kick-Åss, and she impressively performed the majority of her stunts. The actor credited growing up with multiple brothers and experience in ballet and gymnastics as preparation for her stunt work in the film. 

Some superhero actors leave their stunts up to doubles and CGI, but Chris Evans performs his own and takes pride in doing so. The actor loves to perform his own stunts, and he finds himself particularly capable as Captain America since his powers are more humanistic than those of the typical superhero.
