23 actresses we'd love to see in a 'Golden Girls' remake

The Golden Girls  was and still is the favorite of many. Gaining new fans with each passing year thanks to not only streaming but the relatable ways of the four leads who’ve since passed and left fans with a plethora of reaction GIFs that capture any and every mood, it’s forever a small screen gem. However, with almost every show from the past coming back in some way, shape, or form, one has to wonder who could take the idea of fans’ favorite seniors and give it new life. Well, while no one could ever fill the shoes of Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty, a few women could most definitely come close.

Jane Lynch

Jane Lynch
Fox Broadcasting Company

Jane Lynch was the gift that kept on giving on Glee, so there’s no doubt that her brand of sarcasm would not make her a must in a roommate setting.

Megan Mullally

Megan Mullally
NBC

Whether it was the queen bee on Will & Grace or the scene stealer in Parks and Recreation, everyone knows that Megan Mullally is that girl when it comes to sitcoms and owning it.

Jenifer Lewis

Jenifer Lewis
ABC Signature

Known as the Mother of Black Hollywood, it’d feel almost criminal not to include this silver-screen gem. Especially after seeing how well she rocked the grandmother role on Black-ish.

Laurie Metcalf

Laurie Metcalf
Mohawk Productions

Laurie Metcalf has played Aunt Jacky on Roseanne and The Conners longer than Doja Cat has been releasing music, so one would think it’d be hard to imagine her as anything but the spastic relative that never could quite get her life right. However, she was able to guest star throughout The Big Bang Theory’s 12-season run as a character Sheldon Cooper’s stern mother. So it’d be interesting to see her deliver a new classic character to love.

Patricia Heaton

Patricia Heaton
Warner Bros. Television

It would be sort of amazing to see Patricia Heaton pay homage to her late Everybody Loves Raymond co-star, Doris Roberts, by being an overbearing housemate.

Jackée Harry

Jackée Harry
Hallmark Channel

She’s no stranger to being part of a stellar ensemble of strong, entertaining women!

Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton
Paramount Pictures

Diane Keaton is more of a movie star, but a change of pace on the small screen might be her best role yet.

Jane Kaczmarek

Jane Kaczmarek
Fox Television Studios

Most notably known for her role as the often crazed Lois on Malcolm in the Middle, fans might rejoice in seeing her being able to take a chill pill for once. In this Golden Girls’ universe, she’d play an older Lois who is still dealing with a handful of insane sons…and grandsons.

Rita Moreno

Rita Moreno
Paramount Pictures

Whenever there is a need for a woman of a particular age, the right choice is always the icon herself, Rita Moreno.

Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis
Universal Pictures

If Michael Myers ever wants to hang it up, Jamie Lee Curtis would be free to roam onto TV.

Lisa Kudrow

Lisa Kudrow
Fox Searchlight Pictures

In all honesty, if the cast of Friends ever wanted to make even more money off the franchise, they’d just reunite in their golden years and collect $1 million per episode for another decade.

12 of 23

Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh
Warner Bros. Pictures

It’d be hard to get Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh in the cast, but it’d be worth it.

Jennifer Coolidge

Jennifer Coolidge
HBO Entertainment

Not every friend group needs that overtly sexual dynamo, but if Jennifer Coolidge is going to be in the crew, then the overtly sexual dynamo is necessary.

Reba McEntire

Reba McEntire
20th Television

A single grandma who is retired. Who loves her free time and sometimes naps...

Sheryl Lee Ralph

Sheryl Lee Ralph
20th Television

Of course, anything Sheryl Lee Ralph does next would have to be scheduled way in the future since she’s pretty busy owning it on Abbott Elementary.

Catherine O’Hara

Catherine O’Hara
Pop Media Group/Netflix

Now that it’s been put out in the universe, everyone all at once: Let’s manifest this. Catherine O’Hara in a Golden Girls remake. Again, Catherine O’Hara in a Golden Girls' remake.

Katey Sagal

Katey Sagal
ABC Signature

Sometimes, it’s hard to place an actor in a new role because all fans ever see is their biggest, but, um, that’s not the case with Katey Sagal, seeing as how she’s managed to kill it on a handful of shows in a wide variety of leading roles. So, what’s one more?

Jasmine Guy

Jasmine Guy
Lifetime

If there was one person to embody the Southern Belle of retirement in the 21st century, please let it be A Different World's Jasmine Guy.

Allison Janney

Allison Janney
Warner Bros. Television Studios

The blending of her characters from Mom and I, Tonya on a remake of The Golden Girls would be epic.

Fran Drescher

Fran Drescher
Universal Television

If the world can't have the nanny that came from Flushing, Queens, back on their screens, then at least deliver Fran Drescher.

21 of 23

Angela Bassett

Angela Bassett
20th Television

Everyone would be seated if Angela Bassett decided to grace a Golden Girls remake with her presence.

22 of 23

Jennifer Tilly

Jennifer Tilly
Universal Content Productions

Blanche Devereaux would be very pleased to pass her torch to the likes of Jennifer Tilly.

23 of 23

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek
Columbia Pictures

Salma Hayek always plays the role of sultry, but to get her in a role where she’s like Rose Nylund would be incredibly comical.

Kendra Beltran went to college with no game plan and found herself falling back on her love of writing soon after graduating all the way back in 2009. Since then, she's written for MTV Geek, Cosplay Central, Collider, Apartment Therapy, and many other sites that allowed her to showcase her love of all things pop culture. When she isn't writing, Kendra is either hosting her show, Crushgasm, baking all the cookies, or spoiling her fur baby, Mason.
