25 shows where we'd want to be friends with the character group

We watch so many shows where we wonder what it'd be like to live as the characters live. Whether it's because of the location, the stuff the characters get into, or the steadfast bond they have that we all want in our lives, seeing friendship goals play out on our screens makes us all envious. Here's our look at which of these casts of characters we'd most want to be a part of.

1 of 25

'Friends'

'Friends'
The WB Television Network

They’re one of the first groups you think of when entertaining the idea of what it’d be like to be a part of your favorite television show’s inner circle. This is a bunch that surely will keep you laughing, and there will never be a shortage of entertaining stories with everyone living out some wild stories. Chandler, Joey, Ross, Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe will keep you on your toes, but always be down for a meetup at Central Perk. Just don’t bring up that one time Rachel and Ross may or may not have been on a break, and you’ll fit right in!

'Gossip Girl'

'Gossip Girl'
The CW Television Network, CBS

What makes this group one you’d want to be a part of isn’t necessarily the friends themselves. The status of being in this group makes it worth the while. You’d have your spot on the steps, be at the hottest parties in the city, and have summers in the Hamptons. Dan Humphrey proved it’s possible that any regular person can assimilate into this group and make it big. Serena, Blair, and Nate are a fun bunch to hang out with; just keep your distance from Chuck.

'The League'

'The League'
FX Productions

Anyone who has ever been a part of a serious fantasy football league can relate to this group. There will be plenty of trash-talking, friendly banter, and football talk. You’ll never be at the bottom of the group, either, as that spot is always reserved for Andre. Kevin, Pete, Ruxin, Taco, and Jenny make this group as lively as any, just remember to point all your jokes towards Andre, and you’ll fit right in. Plus, there’s always room for one more in their league because no one likes an eight-person league.

'One Tree Hill'

'One Tree Hill'
The CW Television Network, The WB Television Network

How fun would it be to have attended Tree Hill High School? The sports scene is electric there as the Scott brothers make basketball the star of the town. Add in the likes of Brooke, Peyton, and Haley, and you’ve got yourself quite the popular group to roam the hallways with. Sometimes these friend cliques on TV seem too inclusive, but as we saw on this show, there’s plenty of room to be welcomed. Clayton, Julian, Alex, and Chase all came in and out of this group, giving us hope that we all could have been friends with these people

'The O.C.'

'The O.C.'
The WB Television Network

Perhaps none of these friend circles have a location like this hit FOX series. Besides hanging with the popular crowd in Marissa and Summer, you also get the blue-collared Ryan and the lovable and nerdy Seth to balance out everyone. No matter what side of the spectrum you’re on, you’ll surely find a way to fit in here. Plus, you can spend your days at the pier or catching a wave. There’s nothing wrong with choosing your friends based on the sweet location.

'Cheers'

'Cheers'
NBC

Everybody loves a good drinking buddy. With this group, you’re getting quite a few. They’re not kidding when they say everybody knows your name at the bar. You’ll get quick service and never have a dull moment with this bunch. Rebecca, Diane, Sam, Norm and Cliff, and the rest of the patrons at Cheers will make you feel right at home, all while you enjoy a nice cold one.

'Sex And The City'

'Sex And The City'
HBO

This bunch lives out every girl’s dream. With a lavish lifestyle right in the heart of the Big Apple, these four women have plenty going for them, including a rich dating life that will keep the stories flowing daily. Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte have a tight-knit bond, so finding a way in may be difficult, but once you’re in, you’re one of them. You’ll also have a shot to land yourself someone like Mr. Big.

'How I Met Your Mother'

'How I Met Your Mother'
CBS

Let’s just say being in this friend group would be — wait for it — legendary! Ted, Marshall, Lilly, Robin, and of course, Barney are the type of friends you’d want to have. They’re loyal, will tell you the truth, and will always be the perfect wingman or wing-woman. You may even be able to utilize Barney’s playbook for a night or two. Like any TV bunch, there’s a perfect bar to gather at with MacLaren’s, so grab a pint and suit up!

'How I Met Your Father'

'How I Met Your Father'
Hulu

There are plenty of similarities between this new bunch and the ones that we grew to love in How I Met Your Mother. With this one, you’re getting much of the same, friends who are constantly around, will keep it real with you, and get into some crazy adventures with you. There may not be a MacLaren’s, but Pemberton’s will suffice. Sophie, Valentina, Jesse, Charlie, and Sid make for plenty of fun; just make sure never to lose a Rewardishment, or else you’ll be left with the drippings.

'Seinfeld'

'Seinfeld'
NBC

Some friend groups are loyal; others keep you entertained. This eclectic cast may be a bit brutally honest at times, but they’ll make the most of everything, even if it’s a show about nothing. Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer get into some shenanigans daily, so expect to hear all about it the next day at Monk’s Cafe. Just don’t let George convince you to donate to the Human Fund.

11 of 25

'Riverdale'

'Riverdale'
The CW

This is a big group with all levels represented. There’s the rich in Veronica, the popular in Betty and Archie, and a mix of everything else with Jughead, Cheryl, Toni, Kevin, and Reggie. There’s a risk with this group, though. Trouble is always lurking, so be aware that things can get dicey here — be it with a cult, jingle jangle, or time traveling. There’s much fun to be had at Pop’s, though, so pick your battles.

12 of 25

'Outer Banks'

'Outer Banks'
Netflix

If you like adventure and freedom, there’s no group better suited for you. Whether you’re a Kook or Pogue, it doesn’t matter for this bunch. All are welcome, as long as you’re here for a good time. John B., J.J., Pope, Sara, and Kiara never back down from a challenge or a treasure hunt, so make sure you have a travel bag ready on the go. You’ll likely find yourself involved in a heist, a vehicle chase, or even being shot at an occasional time or two, but who wouldn’t want to have the chance to hang out at Poguelandia?

13 of 25

'Only Murders In The Building'

'Only Murders In The Building'
Hulu

This trio is not your typical friend group. They didn’t even want to be friends. Yet, they’re so relatable. Who hasn’t bonded over an unlikely someone due to fandom? These three love a good podcast and will happily invite you in if you’re ready to solve the next murder at the Arconia. Young or old, it doesn’t matter with this mixed trio, as Mabel, Charles, and Oliver are about as different from one another as you could imagine.

14 of 25

'Abbott Elementary'

'Abbott Elementary'
ABC

This may be just a work friendship, but we’d love to be a part of it. Janine is a national treasure with her spirit and willingness to see the best in everyone. Add in the unpredictability of Melissa and Ava to go with the likes of Barbara and Jacob, and you have a bunch of people who will make your work life feel anything but work.

15 of 25

'Zoey 101'

'Zoey 101'
Nickelodeon

Anyone who grew up in the golden age of Nickelodeon wanted to be at Pacific Coast Academy. Not only was it home to Zoey, Chase, Michael, Nicole, Lola, and Logan, but it was in an optimal location in California. This group got into some wild events during the school day, which will make your teenage years as memorable as possible. You may even be able to get a job at Sushi Rox if you’re lucky.

16 of 25

'Blue Mountain State'

'Blue Mountain State'
Spike/Lionsgate Television

This is a frat party you’ll want to be a part of. Whether you’re on the football team or the mascot, there’s room for everyone on this campus. Alex, Thad, Craig, Radon, Sammy and Mary Jo, and everyone else in that school is as welcoming as they come. You may get hazed, will for sure drink too much, and may go on an acid trip, but you’ll never be bored, at least.

'Friday Night Lights'

'Friday Night Lights'
NBC

You like football? I have a place for you. There’s no place where the sport means more than Dillon, Texas. Being a Panther or on the cheer team tends to be a requirement to enter the group of Tim, Matt, Landry, Lyla, and Julie, but don’t let that stop you. It’s worth a shot to join this group because you’ll never be bored on the weekends. If you’re willing to put the pads on, you’ll be a town legend.

'New Girl'

'New Girl'
FOX

Nick and Schmidt are more than welcoming of newcomers. Just ask Jess, who is brought into the group, no questions asked. Winston and Cece round out the group. There will be some inner love drama going on with this group, but when doesn’t that happen? There’s a lot of stuff going on with this group, so try and keep up, but trust us, it’ll be worth it.

'Beverly Hills, 90210'

'Beverly Hills, 90210'
FOX

A group of friends that live in Beverly Hills? Sign us up! Brandon, Brenda, Kelly, Steve, and David are never short of things to do. A lot goes on within these five people, but they’re as tight of a group as you can ask for. From high school to adulthood, they’ll keep you around for the long haul, so enjoy the ride.

'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia'

'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia'
FX Productions

This is as Philadelphian as you get. They’re brash, entertaining, and loyal as they’ll come. They’ll make fun of you but also have your back in any situation. Mac, Dennis, Deandra, and Frank will welcome anyone into Päddy’s Old City Pub. Just remember that if you don’t know what to say, you can rile up the boys by calling Dee a bird. You can gain extra points here by showing your support of the hometown football with a “Go Birds.”

'That '70s Show'

'That '70s Show'
FOX

Going back to the '70s sounds fun, and there’s no group that encompasses that era more than this bunch. Join The Circle and speak your truth. Don’t get too serious in The Circle, and you’ll be fine. Michael, Donna, Eric, Fez, Jackie, and Steven will never shy away from a good time, so bring your funniest stories and a good song to jam out to in the basement.

22 of 25

'The Vampire Diaries'

'The Vampire Diaries'
The CW, CBS

There’s a bit of a high-risk, high reward with this group. Stefan and Damon have a brotherly bond that can’t be separated, but with them comes immortality, so that’s pretty cool. Elena, Caroline, Bonnie, and Tyler transformed quite a bit, so be prepared to become a vampire, werewolf, or witch. There’s always a risk with this bunch, but there’s also a chance you can be resurrected like Jeremy. Mystic Falls is a wild and scary place.

23 of 25

'Stranger Things'

'Stranger Things'
Netflix

If you’re not scared of aliens or The Upside Down, then you’ll fit in with these kids. There’s a lot of interest in this group if you can recall your younger days. They’re filled with adventures, and there’s no journey too big for them. Mike, Will, Lucas, Dustin, Steve, Eleven, and Max get into some absolutely bonkers scenarios that may or may not involve a Demogorgon. Outside of that, they’re always down a game of Dungeons and Dragons.

24 of 25

'The Golden Girls'

'The Golden Girls'
Witt/Thomas Productions

No one friend group has stood the test of time like this one. Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia are such revered friendship goals that they are always on our screens if you need a pick me up. They all have their own personalities and upbringings, which means there’s a place for anyone in this friendship. We’d all love to live with our friends in sunny Miami, so seeing them live out this dream makes them so appealing to us.

'The Big Bang Theory'

'The Big Bang Theory'
Warner Bros., CBS

If you're into nerd culture, this is the place for you. There's nothing off the table with this intellectual group, from Star Wars to the theory of evolution. Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, Raj, Amy, and Penny would make for a fun game night. Bazinga!
