Conan O'Brien confirms 'Conan' will end in June and teases what's next

We all knew this was coming, yet Conan O'Brien still made it a must-watch announcement, which is probably why the four-time Emmy winner has been a successful late-night talk show host for 28 years.

"As some of you have heard—it's been out there for a while now—but we're making it official: we are winding down our TBS show," O'Brien said in a monologue to open Monday's Conan. "The plan is to reemerge on HBO Max sometime in the near future with what I think will be my fourth iteration of a program. Imagine a cooking show with puppets, and you'll have the wrong idea."

The 58-year-old joked that he is moving on from TBS because of advice he got from an almost certainly fictional Buddhist monk and confirmed that Conan's final episode will air June 24.

He continued: "Now, the plan is we're gonna be showing a lot of clips of our favorite moments from the last 11 years. We're gonna have some special guests. We're gonna create, I think, a really fun, special environment. ... I'd like these last couple of weeks to be a fond look back at all the absurd madness that my team and I have concocted. Best of all, I just want to point out, there will be shockingly few—if any—references to Donald Trump because that's always been my favorite kind of comedy."
It was first revealed in mid-November that Conan extended his deal with WarnerMedia in anticipation of creating an HBO Max weekly variety series, produced by Team Coco, with Conan set to conclude following its 10th season.

Conan made its TBS debut in 2010 after he fronted Late Night with Conan O'Brien from 1993 to 2009 on NBC.

The Massachusetts native also currently hosts a podcast titled Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, backed by Team Coco and Earwolf, and has a voiceover role in Netflix's new animation sci-fi comedy The Mitchells vs. the Machines
