Dakota Johnson has made a poignant statement in a recent interview with Bustle about the present state of the film industry.

Her recent film, Madame Web, debuted at the box office to some savage first reactions and reviews from critics and audiences who equally did not enjoy Sony's latest entry to the Marvel catalog.

Bustle asked Johnson if she gets bothered by nasty reviews, to which she had a surprising response: "Unfortunately, I'm not surprised that this has gone down the way it has."

Johnson expanded, saying, "It's so hard to get movies made and in these big movies that get made — and it's even starting to happen with the little ones, which is what's really freaking me out — decisions are being made by committees, and art does not do well when it's made by committee."

She also spoke to the necessity of human involvement in a world facing the very real threat of AI. "You cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms. My feeling has been for a long time that audiences are extremely smart, and executives have started to believe that they're not. Audiences will always be able to sniff out b----t. Even if films start to be made with AI, humans aren't going to f----g want to see those."

Johnson also expressed that she isn't likely to do another film like Madame Web, saying, "I don't make sense in that world".

"Sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it's one thing and then as you're making it, it becomes a completely different thing," she said.

Madame Web opened to $15.3 million at the domestic box office and currently stands at $40 million, with a further $50.6 million internationally.

While it has now made back its $80 million budget at the worldwide box office, it doesn't seem like anyone's in a hurry to add more chapters to Madame Web's story.

Even co-star Sydney Sweeney made fun of the film during her SNL opening monologue, despite the film's producer revealing sequel hopes in an interview
