Ed Sheeran shares how his recreation of 'The Routine' with Courteney Cox happened

If you vocalized your displeasure that Friends: The Reunion  didn't feature Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer recreating "The Routine" from the 1999 Friends episode aptly titled "The One with the Routine," Cox heard you.

Ed Sheeran confirmed as much on SiriusXM this week:

Ever the people-pleaser, just like Monica Geller.

Friends: The Reunion landed at HBO Max on May 27, and Cox posted her "Routine" revival with Sheeran three days later, which has since been viewed over 17 million times:

Here is the original scene, for comparison's sake:

Friends  enjoyed an iconic 10-season run from 1994 to 2004. HBO Max's unscripted reunion special marked the first time all six stars (Cox, Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry) were back together at Stage 24 since wrapping the finale 17 years ago. The legendary crew has only reunited one other time for a private dinner at Aniston's.

Cox also recruited Sheeran for a Friends-inspired rendition of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer." Phoebe (Kudrow) believed the lyrics actually said, "Hold me close, young Tony Danza," in the Season 3 premiere.

Indulging in '90s nostalgia aside, Sheeran dropped "Bad Habits," his first new solo music since 2017, last Friday (June 25). Prior to the new single, fans hadn't heard at all from the four-time Grammy winner since his 2019 collaboration album.

Sheeran is also in the middle of a week-long residency on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
