Gwyneth Paltrow on ex-husband Chris Martin: 'He's like my brother'

The premiere episode of Shop TODAY with Jill Martin served a blast from the past Tuesday morning (June 22).

A makeup-less Gwyneth Paltrow served as Martin's first guest because she is the CEO of Goop, but the conversation veered from all-natural Goop products to Paltrow's family— specifically, her ex-husband and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

"He's like my brother, you know?" the Oscar-winning actress and entrepreneur said. "He's my family. I love him, and I'm so grateful to him for giving me these kids. It worked out well. It really did. I have to say."

Martin and Paltrow married in December 2003. Paltrow filed for divorce in April 2015, but the couple had been separated since May 2013 and going through a "conscious uncoupling." They have two children together, a 17-year-old daughter named Apple and 15-year-old son named Moses.

Last August, Paltrow opened up about the dissolution of her marriage in this first-person essay for British Vogue, recalling that she first realized that divorce was inevitable when she and Martin were vacationing "in the Tuscan countryside" for her 38th birthday—years before they separated.

Paltrow previously discussed her relationship with Martin on this episode of the Anna Faris is Unqualified podcast in late March.

"I've gotten so much from something that I wanted least in the world," she said then. "Like, I never would have wanted to get divorced. I never would have wanted to not be married to the father of my kids, theoretically. But I have learned more about myself through that process than I could have imagined."

Paltrow remarried to television director, writer and producer Brad Falchuk (American Horror Story, Glee, Nip/Tuck, Pose, The Politician) in September 2018.
