Justin Timberlake publicly supports Britney Spears: 'What's happening to her is just not right'

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake had one of the most publicized relationships in pop culture history from 1999 to 2002.

And Timberlake took his support of his ex during her disheartening and ongoing conservatorship case public after Spears spoke in Los Angeles court Wednesday (June 23)—desperately pleading with Judge Brenda Penny to end what has become a 13-year conservatorship.

"After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time," Timberlake tweeted, to begin. "Regardless of our past, good and bad, and no matter how long ago it was… what’s happening to her is just not right. No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body."

Timberlake, married to Jessica Biel, had previously apologized to Spears after receiving backlash from The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears  documentary in February:

Timberlake has a singular past with Spears, but he is far from the only A-lister joining the #FreeBritney movement.

Spears, 39, has been held under a conservatorship since a temporary-turned-permanent one was granted in October 2008. Her father, Jamie Spears, was given control over her affairs and personal life decisions.

Jamie stepped down as primary conservator in 2019 for "personal health reasons," and Jodi Montgomery as well as Bessemer Trust have each been made co-conservators.

The Grammy-winning icon pled Wednesday to end her conservatorship altogether, bringing to light bombshell accusations and vulnerable admissions of the suffering she has endured.
