Is Marvel back to being the underdog? Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige seems to think so as he reveals in a new interview with Empire, "I'm much more comfortable being the underdog. I prefer being able to surprise, and exceed expectations. So it does seem like the last year, which has not been ideal, has set us up well for that."

Feige was referring to the slew of Marvel films to hit theaters in the last few years, which have not lived up to the studio's former successes at the box office.

Feige's not the only one feeling this way. Co-President of Marvel Studios Louis D'Esposito told Marvel, "It's been a rough time". D'Esposito also acknowledged the excessive output from the studio in previous years, saying, "Maybe when you do too much, you dilute yourself a little bit".

Recently, the Disney CEO revealed the new Marvel Studios release plan, which D'Esposito also spoke about in the interview with Empire.

For now, Marvel is focusing on its upcoming release: Deadpool & Wolverine.

Preparing for its theatrical release this July, Feige says, "It's nice to be able to rally behind one feature project this year", which makes a change from previous theatrical calendars that have been populated with multiple Marvel releases.

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26 and stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the titular roles. A new trailer released recently features Wade and Logan quipping in a diner.
