Maya Rudolph details traumatic Palm Springs 'SNL' girls trip

The 2019 Netflix comedy Wine Country was inspired by true events, and Maya Rudolph detailed the most traumatic—at least for her—experience during her Thursday visit with Jimmy Kimmel Live.

"Me and all my SNL ladies went out to Palm Springs and went to this beautiful place, and we all got massages," she said, "and then they took me out to, like, the pagoda. Some weird glass house a little too far down the road, and I got a massage. I got up, and I was like, 'Wow, my leg's really killing me. What's that black spider on the bed?' And the guy was like, 'Oh, that's a black widow.'"

The two-time Emmy winner later added:

"The minute something like that happens, everyone goes into panic mode and really reflects their personality. So, Amy [Poehler]—the paramedic was saying, 'You're gonna need to go to the emergency room,' and she was like, 'You don't need to go to the emergency room.' And then Tina Fey was there, and she was like, 'I'm just gonna call my husband in the other room; I'll be right back,' and then very gently panicked on the phone in the other room. And then Rachel Dratch just got in the shower."

The reason for the trip was to celebrate Ana Gasteyer's 50th birthday, and the premise for Wine Country was a trip to Napa Valley in celebration of Rebecca's (Dratch) 50th. Rudolph was bitten by a snake in the movie. Poehler, Fey, Gasteyer, Rudolph, Paula Pell and Emily Spivey all starred.

Rudolph eventually got around to promoting her new animated sci-fi comedy The Mitchells vs. the Machines, available on Netflix today (April 30). Watch the trailer and full Kimmel interview below.
