The latest featurette for Monkey Man shows you what happens when a man gets his face smashed into a glass ashtray.

And there’s more where that came from in this upcoming India-set action film directed by Dev Patel and produced by Jordan Peele

“The moments of visceral violence are real holy s*** moments,” Peele says in the featurette released by Universal on YouTube, and after witnessing star Patel shatter a spirit bottle on someone’s head as they lay prone on a stove top, that seems accurate.

Monkey Man is an action thriller following Patel’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother. It takes its name from the gorilla mask worn by Patel’s character as he takes on combatants in an underground fight club.

“As his childhood trauma boils over,” reads Universal’s synopsis, “his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.”

But what are audiences saying? Check out are article on Monkey Man first reactions and reviews: “intoxicatingly gruesome”, “brutal” and “one of the best action movies of our time”

Monkey Man releases April 5. Check out the featurette below.
