Nick Jonas swears he was once chased by a pack of coyotes, but Blake Shelton isn't buying it

The Voice's two-night finale begins tonight, but Season 20's coaches gathered on The Kelly Clarkson Show beforehand to share their crazy encounters with wild animals.

It wasn't a competition, but it was a competition.

Blake Shelton began by telling a totally on-brand tale: hanging out with a possum at home in Oklahoma after the animal had previously eaten the fish he had just grilled. After Clarkson rightfully asked whether Shelton has ever heard of rabies, John Legend recounted a trip to Tanzania that brought him way too close to a deadly black mamba snake.

And then, Nick Jonas attempted to upstage them all.

"I got chased by a pack of coyotes once," the 28-year-old said.

"Oh, come on," Shelton interjected. "A pack?! You Jonas boys, every one of you tells [stuff] like that."

Jonas continued:

"I was just coming out of a movie theater, and this is in Los Angeles. I step outside and start walking by myself, walking home. My friends are like, 'We'll give you a ride.' I was like, 'I wanna get some fresh air.' So, I'm walking, and then I see these eyes in the dark. Then I see about six more sets of eyes. And they take off running after me, so I go full sprint for about half a mile to my house. Jump the fence. And they're all at the fence. And they don't chase people normally. They do in a pack, though."

Jonas then added that, during his brisk walk home, he may or may not have smoked some weed—he definitely did—"so this may or may not have happened."

"OK, so wait, so really what chased you were a bunch of maltipoos," Clarkson said.

The Voice airs beginning at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
