Peacock announces 'Girl5eva' has been renewed for Season 2

Peacock agrees that 4eva is too short, announcing that Girls5eva has been renewed for a second season:

Created by Meredith Scardino and executive produced by Scardino, Tina Fey, Jeff Richmond, Robert Carlock, Eric Gurian, and David Miner, the series debuted in early May: "When a one-hit-wonder girl group from the '90s gets sampled by a young rapper, its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. They may be grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents, and shoulder pain, but can't they also be Girls5eva?"

Sara Bareilles, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell and Renee Elise Goldsberry star. Fey made a cameo as Dolly Parton in one episode—out of necessity, as she explained to Jimmy Fallon:

Season 1 (spoiler alert!) left off with Girls5eva regretting their individual decisions to bail on the group for more lucrative opportunities and crashing the Jingle Ball stage to perform their new single "4 Stars." What will be the consequences? Will their performance propel them back to stardom?

"They say they want to be famous and all that s—t, but it's not really about fame,” creator Scardino told TVLine. "It's about fulfillment and trying to build something together and the way they're kind of activating each other's lives. They were all, in their own way, kind of frozen in amber after the band went away and they all had to pick up the pieces of their lives. I just like underdogs, so I didn't want them to become hugely famous. I also didn't think that was realistic, that they would become hugely famous, these four women without a lot of representation and a lot of resources. So in Season 2, I would like to retain some of that scrappy 'us trying to go up against this big, giant machine as underdogs' [energy]."
