Seth Rogen's new book 'Yearbook' reveals 'the weirdest audition I ever did'

Seth Rogen released Yearbook earlier this week, but it's already been lauded as one of the funniest autobiographies in recent memory by critics and readers alike.

An excerpt relayed to us by Insider's Jason Guerrasio goes a long way in proving why.

In the book, Rogen gives a detailed account of his audition for 8 Mile (2002)—"by far, the weirdest audition I ever did." The 39-year-old actor and filmmaker explains that unusual circumstances led to him having to ask friend and Freaks and Geeks co-star Jason Segel to read for the role of Cheddar with him:

"We asked our agents if our auditions could be scheduled one right after the other, so that one of us could audition for Cheddar, with the other reading the Rabbit part, and then we'd switch. ... We had a sleepover at my apartment the night before the auditions so we could rehearse and then carpooled to the audition together

"Auditioning is embarrassing in the best of times. Add the fact that one of my best friends is watching me do it and that we're both reading for rappers from Detroit, which we could NOT have been less right for. ... I started laughing hysterically. And so did Jason. We literally couldn't make it through the auditions. As soon as one of us started the scene, the other would lose it. ... It was so silly, we couldn't finish. We just excused ourselves and saw ourselves out, tears streaming down our faces."

Cheddar was ultimately played by Evan Jones in 8 Mile, a drama that starred Eminem as the leading man as well as the late Brittany Murphy.

Rogen has separately shared an excerpt about his time filming The Interview (2014)—which he directed, co-wrote, produced and starred in—on Twitter:

The Emmy nominee also jokingly boasted about "perhaps the most random cast of all time" for his audiobook counterpart:
