The series finale for 'This Is Us' finally has an air date

Tissues may go out of stock nationwide in May.

NBC announced today that the series finale of This Is Us will air May 24 beginning at 9 p.m. EST (h/t Entertainment Weekly).

The tear-jerking drama premiered in fall 2016 and instantaneously became a universally beloved smash. Starring the likes of Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz and Sterling K. Brown, the Dan Fogelman creation charts the multi-generational story of the Pearson family.

It was confirmed last May that the sixth season would be This Is Us's last, as was the plan all along.

"I think we're roughly in the middle of where the television series is going to go," Fogelman told The Hollywood Reporter surrounding the Season 3 finale in 2019. "We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons, and so we have a very direct plan. I have script pages I have written and I'm writing that really are deep, deep, deep into the future."

"Like, we have a plan for what we're going to do and I know what the plan is," he continued. "I'm not allowed to talk about it too much because they freak out. But yeah, I think where you find the characters right now, you're in the middle of their story. If you were in the movie theater, you'd be at the moment where you're about an hour into the movie wondering what's going to happen."

Season 6 premiered Jan. 4 and has aired five episodes so far. The final run is paused until the 2022 Beijing Olympics conclude. The next episode is scheduled for Feb. 22. Watch a teaser below.
