Vince Vaughn blames his kids' sports for missing The Kentucky Derby

When Vince Vaughn was a kid, his father took him to horse races.

As a 51-year-old father, he missed Saturday's running of the The Kentucky Derby because of the logistics involved in his kids' baseball and soccer games.

"I usually always watch the Derby," Vaughn said by Zoom on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon . "I never miss it, but this year, because of kids' sports, I did miss the Derby."

Vaughn continued:

"There was a baseball game and a soccer game, and there was traveling involved. We've talked about this. For some reason, you have to drive 35 minutes to play other nine-year-olds. It's a confusing process. I don't understand it, but I'm on the train. It's not stopping, but I don't understand. ... I don't know which field is what. There's a field behind the field, and you didn't know about that. People are in tears, and you're late. It's all complicated. But I'm glad we're playing! I'm grateful the kids are back playing sports."

Vaughn has two children—10-year-old Locklyn and seven-year-old Vernon—with his wife, Kyla.

The comedic actor's newest role is in the independently produced North Hollywood from Mikey Alfred. Vaughn costars with Ryder McLaughlin and Miranda Cosgrove.

"I like this young filmmaker (Alfred)," Vaughn said. "He's a young kid, and he comes from the skateboard culture, and he had like a coming of age movie. I was just really impressed with him, so I said that I would do the movie. So I'm glad that I did it. It's a nice little movie that he made. He's a first-time director."
