Indiana Fever: Caitlin Clark’s Expected WNBA Contract Has Fans Dumbfounded
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Caitlin Clark is the talk of the town in the women’s hoops world after she got selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever on Monday . The buzz has yet to die down about Clark, with many people also having all sorts of reactions to the reported salary that the former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar is going to earn in her first years in the pros.

Indiana Fever Rookie Caitlin Clark’s Salary

As reflected in the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement, Clark is expected to earn the following money in her first four years in the league (h/t USA TODAY):

2024: $76,535
2025: $78,066
2026: $85,873
2027 (fourth-year option): $97,582

While that is, in a vacuum, lots of money, many think that it’s way below what Clark could potentially help the WNBA generate in terms of revenue. Given her impact and drawing power, one can expect Clark to spark massive jersey sales, help sell out arenas, and at the very least, attract a ton of attention on nights that she plays with the Fever. In any case, her salary is bound to the current rules of the WNBA.

Fans react to Clark’s salary

“Biggest woman’s hooper in the world is getting paid an entry level consultant salary,” posted @lamibackup on X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter).

“Teacher salary for a superstar is wild. The WNBA has to do better. This is unacceptable,” said @HaterReport_.

“Presumably she’ll make bank on endorsements but Caitlin Clark’s WNBA salary is less than that of a union nurse, teacher, or cop,” wrote @kittypurrzog.
