It's time to start wondering about Jameson Williams
Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

Here we are Detroit Lions fans. I've been steadfast on the whole "give Jameson Williams time" thing for a while now. I'm a little more restraint than some who want to call any player a bust five minutes into their careers. We're quite a while past five minutes at this point. I'm not saying the word bust, but I'm circling the idea that this whole experiment isn't going to work out.

Before I go any further, I'm not bringing up any of the dumb stuff that some members of the Lions fan base want to bring up. This has nothing to do with lighting fireworks or being on Instagram. This is an on field thing and that's it.

I still think it's very fair to bring up the idea that Williams just hasn't had the time. He spent most of 2022 recovering from a torn ACL and then when he came back, the Lions took it very easy with him. Then there was the hamstring injury in camp and the gambling suspension. Now he's back and he's fully healthy and for half of the time you're wondering where he is and the other half you're wondering how he didn't catch that ball.

I thought after the big touchdown against the Buccaneers, that we would see a turn from him. On Sunday against the Ravens he wasn't seen for much of the game and then when the Lions really put him out there, he had multiple drops and had a really bad play where the ball bounced off his face and he didn't even have his hands up.

What is it? Is it a confidence thing? is it a skill thing? Is he just not going to be a deep threat guy? Would the Lions be better off using him in short yard situations where he can use his speed to get yards after the catch? I don't know.

If we're just talking about things that are on my mind, sometimes it feels like the Lions don't know what to do with him or that they've already realized that this isn't going to work out. You expect to see a lot more of a guy that you traded up in the first round to get now that he's fully healthy and you just haven't seen that yet. Like I said earlier, you wonder where he is half the time.

Maybe they are really holding true to the idea that they want to work him in slowly. After all, he really does have very little NFL experience. How much longer can that be an excuse though?

Like I said, I'm not in the bust territory. But I need to see something positive. I need to see this kid go out there and play a complete game with multiple catches and a lot of snaps. Even if it's not a highlight reel, it would just be nice to see an idea of what he would look like as a full on part of this offense as opposed to a guy that comes in for a deep shot here and there.

There's still 10 games of this season left. Let's see where things go.
