A Look at Some Unique Baseball History For Felix Hernandez As He Enters Seattle Mariners HOF
USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners will honor longtime ace Felix Hernandez on Saturday night by inducting him into the Mariners Hall of Fame.

The ceremony will take place before the Mariners play game two of three against the Baltimore Orioles. Seattle won game one, 9-2.

As the M's enshrine "King Felix" the MLB.com official "X" (formerly Twitter) account posted a bit about some unique history that solely belongs to him.

Immaculate inning.

4-strikeout frame.

Perfect game.

Only one pitcher in AL/NL history lays claim to all these achievements.

The one true King.

Those are incredibly rare things to do individually and Hernandez managed to do them collectively, showing his greatness. He was one of the best pitchers of his generation, alongside guys like Justin Verlander, CC Sabathia and others.

As for the Mariners themselves? He is one of the most revered players in team history, having spent the entirety of his 15-year career in Seattle. He went 169-136 lifetime, playing for some mostly bad Mariners teams. He had a career 3.42 ERA, made six All-Star teams, won two ERA titles and won a Cy Young award.

Sadly, Hernandez never got the chance to pitch in the postseason, as the M's failed to make the playoffs from 2002-2021, spanning the entirety of his career and then some.

He debuted in 2005 at the age of 19 and retired after the 2019 season.

He'll join Ichiro Suzuki, Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, Jamie Moyer, Lou Piniella, Jay Buhner, Alvin Davis and Dave Niehaus in the Hall of Fame.

The first pitch of the game is 9:40 p.m. ET.
