Angels Team Manager Sounds Off on Jaime Barria's Best Outing of 2023 Season
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels were able to capture a huge win on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs and now only need one more victory to put together a sweep! This was a very fun one to watch unfold as some huge offensive sequences from Mickey Moniak, Luis Rengifo, and Mike Trout all paved the way for the Halos to come out on top 6-2.

It was relatively quiet for both sides up until the fourth inning where Trout stepped up to the plate and launched a homer that traveled 388 feet and landed the Angels their first run of the game.

Things went back and forth after that but it was ultimately Rengifo's back to back huge hits that allowed the Halos to take a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning that changed the whole energy in the stadium. All Moniak had to do after that was follow up and he did just that with a double that led to three more runs.

Excellence at the mound

But as much as the Angels' offense was able to come to life on Wednesday night, Jaime Barria took care of business for the clubhouse as he was starting pitcher and continues to show why he belongs there.

Barria only allowed three hits with two runs in his five innings pitched and his ERA now sits at a solid 1.85. The 26-year-old RHP has just 14 games under his belt with the franchise and has found his way into the starting rotation after initially being brought up as a bullpen member.

"You just sit back and he throws a lot of strikes," said Nevin. "When they score runs off of him, it's because they're going to hit the ball and he uses his defense. Every one of our pitchers should focus in when he's on the mound. It's impressive."

Let's see how he continues to fare and develop.
