Bold Prediction Has Astros Superstar Best Ever
Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

When thinking about the Houston Astros, two names really come to mind.

Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell are two of the franchise's best players ever with them holding virtually every offensive record in the team's history. Bagwell was the first Astro to win an MVP award and both were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

But, one thing that neither were able to accomplish was winning the World Series championship.

It was a long wait until Houston got their first one in 2017.

With two World Series titles now in franchise history, the common denominator has been a few players during this "Golden Era" and Jose Altuve has emerged as one of the best that's ever played for the Astros.

He became the second player to win an MVP award in Houston after the 2017 season and has become one of the best playoff performers ever.

Brian McTaggert of MLB.com has a bold prediction for the superstar during the upcoming year.

"Altuve cements himself as the greatest Astros player in history by earning his second MVP award and winning the city’s mayoral race in a landslide special election," he writes.

The political aspect is a funny afternote, although if a second MVP did come for Altuve, he might be able to win the election.

But, this is an interesting scenario to consider if he would actually be thought of as the franchise's best player.

He's basically third behind Bagwell and Biggio in almost every offensive category depending on which one is looked at, but Altuve still has some time left in his career and owner Jim Crane has stated he'd like him to retire with Houston when that time comes.

With two MVPs, two World Series titles, all-time playoff numbers and potentially record-holding franchise records, it would be hard to not consider Altuve as the best player in Astros history.
