Boston Red Sox' Rob Refsnyder Discusses His Contract Extension

Boston Red Sox utility outfielder Rob Refsnyder signed a contract extension for the 2024 season on Saturday morning. The contract contains a club option for the 2025 season.

The deal will pay him $1.85M in 2024, with a $2M club option for 2025. The deal includes performance bonuses and escalators.

After the contract was announced, he spoke to the media. You can see his full comments below:

"Super humbled. Super grateful. I've had this game almost taken from me a couple times just based on performance and I sit here very grateful, very humbled, thankful. I get to play in the greatest baseball city and the greatest ballpark and I definitely don't lose sight of that."

This is a shrewd move by the Red Sox, as Refsnyder has been extremely valuable in a platoon role. Frequently starting against left-handers, he's hitting .284 this year with one home run, 17 RBI and two stolen bases. He's also played good defense in the outfield when he plays.

Boston appreciates him, and he seems to appreciate Boston, having found a home with the Red Sox after several years of bouncing around the league.

He made his major league debut in 2015 with the New York Yankees and then also played for the Blue Jays (2017), Rays (2018), Rangers (2020) and Twins (2021) before coming to Boston before the 2022 season.

Lifetime, he's a .247 hitter with 13 homers.

The Red Sox are in last place in the American League East. They did beat the Rays in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday. Game 2 will be played at 6:10 p.m. ET.
