Braves Briefing: Ronald Acuña Jr joins small group with 140th run scored of 2023

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr is continuing his quest for a 40/40 season, which would be only the 5th in Major League Baseball history.  

But in the meantime, he's setting plenty of other records. 

Acuña's 3rd inning run last night gave him 140 runs on the 2023 season, entering rare company. Since 1945, only fifteen players have reached that mark, most of them coming during the 1990s when offense was inflated across the league.

Reaching the 150 run milestone is a bit tougher - with nine games left in the regular season, a lot would have to go right, but it's a feat that's happened only three times since 1937, and not since Jeff Bagwell in 2000. 

The modern baseball record is probably safe, as Babe Ruth himself scored 177 runs for the 1921 New York Yankees. 

NL Wild Card Standings

The Atlanta Braves have won the NL East and secured a first-round bye but we're closely watching the Wild Card race as Atlanta will play the winner of the Wild Card series pitting the top two wild card finishers in the Divisional Round.

He now has 32 home runs and 103 RBIs on the season - joining Matt Olson and Ronald Acuña Jr. as the three Braves players with 100 RBIs so far this year.
