Brewers Option Two Players to Triple-A Nashville

Milwaukee has officially optioned two players to their Triple-A affiliate Nashville Sounds. This move comes after the Brewers 2-0 loss to the Cubs on Sunday afternoon.

The two players optioned on Sunday were infielder Mike Brosseau and catcher Alex Jackson.

Brosseau was picked up this offseason to provide some positional depth for the Brewers infield. He had his first Brewers moment when he hit a clutch home run off of Cubs pitcher Daniel Norris. That home run helped prevent an 0-3 start to the Brewers season in their opening series versus Chicago.

Aside from that moment, Brosseau’s season has been fairly average. He was hitting .250 with seven hits and four RBIs, but he also has struck out seven times this season. He’ll be able to get some more consistent at-bats in Nashville until the Brewers need him back in Milwaukee.

The other player optioned to Nashville was back-up catcher Alex Jackson. Jackson had been filling in for Victor Caratini since he was placed on the COVID list last week. In seven total at-bats, Jackson had two hits and struck out four times. He’ll likely remain in Nashville unless the Brewers lose either of their main catchers to an injury or COVID.

This move could lead to infielder Luis Urias being called up very soon. It would make sense because Brosseau’s defensive versatility would be missed greatly if there wasn’t another utility player being called up in is place. Urias has been out since spring training with a quad injury. He has been making rehab starts in Double-A Biloxi, and the team may feel like he’s ready to return to the Brewers’ lineup.
