In a tweet sent by the Chicago Cubs’ official account, they announced another injury designation. Retroactive to May 8, the team placed somewhat newly acquired LHP Sean Newcomb on the 10-Day Injured List with a left ankle sprain. The team has recalled RHP Mark Leiter Jr. from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move.

Sean Newcomb was acquired in a deal that sent RHP Jesse Chavez to the Atlanta Braves. He has a 7.56 ERA in six appearances this season, and an 8.10 ERA in three games pitched with the Cubs.

Mark Leiter Jr. offers the Cubs length and versatility in either the bullpen or as a starter. He could be used as soon as today in long relief, as the team will send Keegan Thompson to the bump for the starting nod against the San Diego Padres. This year, Leiter Jr. is 0-1 with a 7.84 ERA in four appearances with the big league club.
