Dansby Swanson has a strange comment about his free agency process
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this week, Dansby Swanson was asked about his decision to sign with the Cubs. Here’s what he had to say:

I don’t understand saying something like this publicly. You’re kind of slighting your new team and basically saying that money was the deciding factor. I don’t think a club projected to win 77 games by Fangraphs is what swayed Swanson to leave for Chicago. It was the $177 million he was offered.

I would be concerned if I was a Cubs. There’s a great chance they probably overpaid for Swanson’s services; now, he’s making these type of peculiar comments. As far as the Braves are concerned, Swanson’s departure is the best for both parties. Dansby got a huge contract, and the Braves don’t have to pay it to him.

Regardless, it wasn’t some big secret the Braves weren’t going to give Swanson that type of money, but it may indicate he was closer to returning than Braves fans might think. I have my doubts, but what’s done is done, and Vaughn Grissom appears to be the next man up in Atlanta.
