Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander and model Kate Upton are one of the ultimate power couples in the United States. Now, Verlander and Upton are using their platform and paycheck to help an incredible cause.
Ever since MLB shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Verlander has stepped up to provide for those in need. Each week he donates his paycheck to an important cause, and he is keeping with the tradition until baseball returns. On Saturday, Upton and Verlander announced he would give this week’s check to the American Gold Star Mothers.
This week we are honored to work with the American Gold Star Mothers (@AGSM_National) to create a program to help their members who have been financially impacted by #COVID19. Thank you for your incredible strength and unimaginable sacrifices #mothersday @JustinVerlander pic.twitter.com/4Mx0kYLCOQ

The American Gold Star Mothers is a non-profit organization that helps provide support to mothers who lost a son or daughter in service for the United States Armed Forces. Created in 1928, the organization was founded by mothers who lost children during military service, and it has provided support for countless mothers since its founding.
The donation from Verlander and Upton will help provide assistance for mothers in the foundation who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. During a time when many are struggling in an economic crisis, it’s great to see Verlander and Upton providing a wonderful donation before Mother’s Day.
