Sandy Alderson to miss MLB Winter Meetings

After collapsing at a press conference last Wednesday, New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson will miss the annual general manager meetings to undergo an unspecified medical procedure.

John Ricco, the assistant general manager, made the announcement Monday at the start of the four-day session.

"He had a medical procedure that was scheduled after the season ended and because of the playoff run it got pushed back, kept getting pushed and pushed, and obviously for good reason," Ricco said. "And so he’s going to have it done this week."

Ricco would not disclose whether Alderson was feeling fine.

"He asked me to just kind of keep it at that," Ricco said. “At some point, we’ll have something more to say." Rico added: "I don’t want to portray it, though, as something extremely urgent about it."

Alderson, 67, has been the Mets general manager since 2010. He is responsible for building this years Mets team that made it to their first World Series since 2000.

The Mets lost the World Series in five games to Kansas City Royals.
