Mets' Star Leaves Game After Hit By Pitch
USA TODAY Sports

A scary moment for this New York Mets' star.

Rookie catcher Francisco Alvarez exited Tuesday night's game against the Yankees after getting hit on the hand by a pitch in the top of the ninth inning.

Yankees reliever Albert Abreu struck out Alvarez, but plunked him on the hand in the process. Alvarez was then seen withering in pain before promptly leaving the game.

Alvarez was replaced at catcher in the bottom of the ninth by Omar Narvaez.

The Mets can ill afford to lose their star catcher for any period of time, as they try to climb back into the playoff race before the August 1 trade deadline.

Alvarez has been one of the Mets' lone bright spots this year, hitting 19 home runs and posting a .792 OPS.

The Mets will be holding their breath on Alvarez, hoping that his injury is not serious.
