Mike Hazen makes it clear: No room for Gabriel Moreno trade Talks in Diamondbacks’ plans

The annual Winter Meetings officially kicked off on Sunday, December 3rd, bringing MLB owners together in Nashville, Tennessee, to shape the upcoming season for their teams.

Already, Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen has given some insight on his mindset this offseason.

More specifically, he provided an example of a player that he is unwilling to trade away.

According to Jesse Friedman at PHNX Sports, Mike Hazen had quite the response when asked what his reaction would be if an owner called him up to talk about Gabriel Moreno:

“I’ll pick up the phone. I’ll say thank you. And then I’ll change the subject.”

This stance seems sensible given Moreno’s impressive performance last season.

The Diamondbacks acquired Gabriel Moreno via a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays around this time last December.

Not knowing what exactly they would get out of the 23-year-old catcher, Moreno more than surpassed all expectations in his second season in the MLB.

Along with his .284 batting average, Moreno won the Gold Glove award after leading the league with a 39% caught stealing rate.

If the Diamondbacks really wanted to make a splash this offseason, they could do so by extending Moreno through a multi-year deal and locking him up in Arizona for the next five or so years.
