Houston Astros All-Star Yordan Alvarez repeated his standing atop the list of MLB Top-10 Left Fielders Right Now. Alvarez was ranked No. 1 by The Shredder for the 2024 season, and the best left fielder in baseball by analysts Mike Petriello, Sarah Langs and Vince Gennaro.

Alvarez made his debut on The Shredder rankings as the top left fielder heading into 2023.

The Shredder is a statistical model that places emphasis on WAR, wRC+ and Statcast metrics to compile annual rankings. The model focuses on a three-year sample with performance in the previous season weighted more heavily in the calculations.

The Los Angeles Dodgers did not have a left fielder ranked by The Shredder or MLB Network analysts for a second consecutive year. Their last representative was AJ Pollock, who placed eighth on The Shredder’s rankings of the best left fielders for the 2022 season.

Though, Teoscar Hernández was ranked No. 8 on the list of Top-10 Right Fielders for 2024. Hernández may see some time in right field but the Dodgers primarily plan on playing him in left field.

Hernández admitted to being most comfortable in right field but is embracing any role and position the Dodgers ask of him after signing a one-year, $23.5 million contract.

The Dodgers may not have been represented on The Shredder’s rankings of right fielders but they have ties to Alvarez, who they signed for $2 million during the 2015-16 international signing period before trading him two weeks later to the Astros in exchange for Josh Fields.

It turned out to be an ill-fated deal as Álvarez has developed into one of the best power hitters in all of baseball. He won American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2019 and among other accolades also is a two-time Silver Slugger, 2022 American League Championship Series MVP and World Series champion.
