Lamet left Saturday's 10-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the third inning after surrendering Eduardo Escobar's 17th home run of the season. He allowed two home runs and four earned runs in total before exiting.
The Padres have been cautious with Lamet this season after he missed his final regular-season start of 2020 with an elbow injury. He rehabbed during the offseason instead of undergoing reconstructive surgery.
Lamet has only made it through five innings twice in his nine starts this year. He is 2-3 on the season with a 3.67 ERA, 1.398 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 34.1 innings.
This is the second time this season Lamet has gone on the injured list with the ailment. On Sunday, Padres manager Jayce Tingler said the team is optimistic the Dominican native will be okay.
