The Boston Red Sox officially introduced their newest and biggest offseason acquisition Wednesday morning.
Two-time All-Star Trevor Story agreed to a six-year, $140 million deal with Boston on Sunday, signaling the end of his six-season run with the Colorado Rockies. Story was selected by the Rockies in the first round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft, made his big-league debut in 2016 and picked up All-Star nods and Silver Slugger honors in 2018 and 2019.
The Red Sox already have franchise stalwart Xander Bogaerts holding down the starting shortstop position, so Story will be shifting over to second base.
Story: “At the end of the day, this comes down to winning. … So looking forward to getting on the field and getting after a championship.”

Story says he's comfortable at second even with a short timeframe before the season. Said he played a lot there in the minors and with the shift has moved around the field. Admits it will be different but feels ready for the transition

The 29-year-old Story was the subject of heavy trade rumors last summer, but ultimately finished out the 2021 campaign with Colorado, recording 24 home runs, 75 RBIs and 20 steals, while posting a .251/.329/.471 slash line. Story had arguably his best season in 2018, when he registered career-highs in games played (157), at-bats (598), home runs (37), RBIs (108), hits (174), doubles (42) and steals (27) among other categories, while ending with a .291/.348/.567 slash line.
