Watch: Mets announcer blasts Brandon Nimmo for failed stolen-base attempt

Even the television announcers for the New York Mets are struggling to keep their emotions in check amid the club's ongoing woes.

As shared by Justin Tasch of the New York Post, SNY play-by-play commentator Gary Cohen blasted outfielder Brandon Nimmo for a failed stolen-base attempt in the top of the ninth inning of what became a 2-0 loss at the lowly Detroit Tigers on Thursday afternoon.

Nimmo had reached first with one out in the frame when he was gunned down on a play that probably never should've happened in the first place.

"He's running?!?" A bewildered Cohen seemed to ask as Nimmo raced toward second.

"What is he doing?!? You’re down by two runs in the ninth," Cohen continued upon seeing Nimmo was clearly tagged out before he reached the bag. "Why are you trying to steal?

"That one’s incomprehensible."

Mets legend and SNY analyst Keith Hernandez pointed out that Nimmo "hasn’t really tried for a stolen base in multiple games." Tasch noted that Nimmo last successfully swiped a base back on April 10.

Starling Marte struck out shortly after Nimmo's miscue to end the game.

To his credit, Nimmo faced the music and explained why he made the decision to try to take second even though the Mets needed two runs to tie the game.

Manager Buck Showalter sounded none too pleased with Nimmo shortly after the defeat.

"It's a byproduct of guys trying to push something that's not there"

It's no secret Nimmo considers himself a candidate to eventually be named Mets team captain, and one can't necessarily blame the 30-year-old for attempting to spark a rally considering all that's occurred over the past two weeks. The Mets were 14-7 on April 22 but have fallen to 16-16 following the three-game sweep in Detroit (13-17), and there are legitimate concerns that Max Scherzer is currently not a co-ace for what was supposed to be a World Series contender.

The Amazins will attempt to turn things around when they begin a three-game home series against the Colorado Rockies (11-20 as of Thursday morning) on Friday night.
