Cody Garbrandt Doesn't Share Urijah Faber's Sentiment On Squashing TJ Dillashaw Beef: 'There's Always Going To Be An Asterisk'
(Noah K. Murray-USA Today Sports/BJPenn.com)

TJ Dillashaw's split from Urijah Faber's Team Alpha Male was a hugely public fall-out that is still yet to be resolved.

Dillashaw went straight from college to training with Faber and the team before eventually leaving with striking coach Duane Ludwig to set up their own camp.

For a long time, the dispute was just a disagreement behind closed doors. That was, until the two teams came up against each other head-to-head.

In back-to-back fights at UFC 217 and UFC 227, the bantamweight title was contested between Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt, who were originally training partners with each other.

The beef between the two parties reached new heights during these two title fights, but that was over five years ago now.

During his recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Faber gave the latest update as to whether he would be willing to call a truce with Dillashaw now they both live near each other.

“We probably will [make amends] now that we’re in the same area. I’ve walked by him once or twice at [events]. I’m willing to let bygones be bygones. I don’t like negativity in my life. If there’s negativity there, I’ll squash it.”

Garbrandt Less Willing To Bury The Hatchet With Friend-Turned-Rival TJ Dillashaw

Garbrandt, who lost his bantamweight title to his former friend, is not feeling as forgiving in settling the feud with Dillashaw.

He felt personally invested in the rivalry due to his relationship with Dillashaw, which has been completely fallen apart due to the questions about loyalty.

As he prepares to return this weekend at UFC 296, "No Love" was asked to give his take on Faber's recent comments during an interview with ESPN MMA. Rather than sharing the same sentiment, the ex-champ instead pointed to Dillashaw's history with PEDs.

It's safe to say that he is in no rush to welcome Dillashaw back with open arms...

"I mean, it is what it is, TJ is no longer in the UFC, you see with his career and towards the end of it and that's the reason why," Garbrandt continued. "The substances he was taking, his body wasn't able to uphold and good for him, hats off to him for what he was able to do. But, you know, there's always going to be an asterix and there should be an asterisk throughout his name and whatever he's done in his career.

"I know wholeheartedly that I can go through my whole UFC career and not ever have to take any performance-enhancing drug and just believe in my abilities," Garbrandt added.
