During the last stages of Diego Sanchez's UFC tenure, a big talking point surrounding the fighter was his connection to now-former coach Joshua Fabia, who was known for unorthodox and controversial training methods.

Sanchez joined Fabia in 2019, departing from Jackson-Wink, with Fabia running what has been described as a school of "self-awareness."

Fabia, who had no experience with training MMA fighters prior to working with Sanchez, garnered controversy for methods that included chasing Sanchez around with a knife, with several videos showcasing these bizarre and controversial methods.

Now, in an Instagram Live post from over the weekend, Sanchez opened up about his relationship with Fabia.

"For the past two years, I have been running from a very traumatic experience that words cannot even explain how traumatizing this was," Sanchez said. "It involves a very evil man that manipulated, blackmailed, extorted me, and eventually put an end to my UFC career."

Sanchez Says Confronting Issues With Fabia Will Allow Him To Move On

Toward the end of Sanchez's run with the UFC, Fabia accused the promotion of trying to paint him and "The Nightmare" in a bad light. These accusations were captured on film, with Fabia in a verbal spat with UFC commentators Paul Felder and Megan Olivi.

Sanchez was released in 2021 after Fabia requested all of his medical records from his 15 years with the promotion. White told ESPN upon news of the release that the decision was made after an attorney, speaking on behalf of Fabia and Sanchez, could not confirm there were no medical issues regarding Sanchez's health.

About a month later, Sanchez parted ways with Fabia, who he described in the social media video as a "Charlie Manson type of mind."

"I’ve been dealing with this psychopath for, s***, it’s been three years, four years. I paid him out. I paid him money to get out of my life because the situation had become so volatile, and so evil, and dark, that there was no other option," Sanchez recalled. "Either he was gonna kill me or I was gonna have to kill him."

In response to Sanchez parting ways with him, Fabia went on to accuse the UFC veteran of "taking advantage of him" during their approximately two-year relationship.

In the new video, Sanchez claimed that Fabia had threatened him with blackmail and "implemented slavery on me" when he wasn't happy with the money Sanchez had.

According to the fighter, detailing the experience was a way for him to confront the issues with Fabia, which he says is needed for him to move on with his life.

Sanchez added that he's lived in fear the last couple of years, worried that Fabia, who he said claims to be a "profit," would come after not just him, but his family.

He also wants to ensure that no one would ever be fooled by Fabia and his deception ever again.

"Out of the love for my daughter, and my mother, and my family, I was put into these situations and forced to comply with everything that he said and did," Sanchez said. "I didn't want to go to jail for killing him, and I didn’t want to get murdered, or get anybody hurt.

"Now I am in the right state of sound mind where I'm ready to move forward and let this part of my past go. But for me to do that, I have to fight this fight."
