Floyd Mayweather to Conor McGregor: 'I will be waiting to punish you again'

UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor announced his retirement from fighting on Sunday, but many seem to think we haven't seen the last of him.

World boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, among others, commented on McGregor's retirement and made it known that he wants a piece of the 31-year-old if he returns to the ring in the future.

"If I'm not mistaken, didn't you tell Mike Tyson you could beat me if we fought a second time? Now you're quitting!" Mayweather commented on one of McGregor's Instagram posts. "I thought you wanted to beat the best? Well, if you decide to come back, I will be waiting to punish you again."

Mayweather welcomed McGregor to the sport in 2017, defeating him in 10 rounds and extending his boxing record to 50-0 before retiring.

McGregor first walked away from the sport in 2016 after refusing to travel to the United States to take part in a news conference for his rematch against Nate Diaz. He returned later that summer and defeated Diaz. McGregor then announced he was retiring again in 2019 but returned to defeat Donald Cerrone in January.

The native of Ireland was going to fight three times in 2020, and while he completed his first fight, the coronavirus pandemic drove a knife into his plans.

McGregor, who is 22-4, has just two UFC losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Diaz. He leaves the game ranked eighth on the UFC pound-for-pound list.
