Ian Garry Losing Hope Regarding Future Fight with Colby Covington
Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Ian Garry is losing hope of a future matchup against Colby Covington.

Garry has been rallying for a clash against Covington for a while now, which has invited signature trash talk from the former welterweight title challenger. Covington has taken multiple digs at Garry and his wife, also laying down multiple stipulations needed to fight the Irish contender. While Garry has accused Covington of ducking him, the former interim champ recently turned down a potential fight, citing a lack of seriousness from the Irishman.

Currently training at Chute Boxe Diego Lima in Brazil, Garry was in attendance at UFC 301 on Rio de Janeiro. “The Future” reiterated his wish to fight Covington, doubling down on the ducking accusations in an interview with ESPN. Garry also claimed that the fight was offered to Covington, who turned it down. The undefeated welterweight prospect is now gradually losing hope of the matchup coming to fruition.

“Colby needs to stop running, that’s the truth. I feel like Colby’s running, he doesn’t want to say yes, and he’s going to make any excuse he possibly can. That’s the truth,” Garry said.

“Yes, there’s been offers. He hasn’t said yes. All we’re waiting on is Colby to say yes and then that’s it, everything can get finalized, but I fully believe that Colby is going to run and he’s not going to fight this fight. I feel like he’s going to take every opportunity he can to run away from me.”

Garry is currently undefeated in seven UFC outings, with victories over the likes of Daniel Rodriguez, Neil Magny and Geoff Neal. Meanwhile, Covington came up short in his third gold bid with a lopsided unanimous decision loss against Leon Edwards at UFC 296 this past December.
