Gina Carano is suing Disney and Lucasfilm after being dropped from The Mandalorian in 2021.
The actor, who played Cara Dune in the popular Disney+ Star Wars series, was removed from the show and let go by her agency UTA for her controversial posts on Covid-19 and the 2020 election.
The former MMA fighter, who also appeared as Angel Dust in 2018’s Deadpool, is seeking $75,000 in damages for wrongful discharge and sexual discrimination. She also wants a court order that would reinstate her on The Mandalorian.
Carano is teaming up with Twitter and Tesla owner Elon Musk for the suit. In a 2023 Twitter post, Musk said he would help anyone facing employment discrimination over their posts.
His head of business operations at Twitter, Joe Benarroch, said in a statement: “As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination.”
The Mandalorian Season Three concluded April 2023, with Lucasfilm announcing a Mandalorian movie starring Grogu on the way.
