Charles Barkley finishes dead-last in charity golf tournament
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Charles Barkley once again brought up the rear on the leaderboard at the American Century celebrity golf tournament over the weekend at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nev. Although Barkley is very familiar with finishing dead-last in the tourney, as he has done so seven times in 23 appearances.

But it’s the brutal manner in which Barkley finished last is what makes it so stupefying.

The celebrity tournament uses a modified Stableford scoring system with which golfers nab six for eagles, three for birdies, one for par and -2 for scores of double bogey or worse. While Tony Romo rallied for a come-from-behind victory, Barkley finished a mind-blowing -93 and in 91st place. Other than former NFL star linebacker DeMarcus Ware, who finished -90, no other golfer in the field finished with a worse score than -76.

To put Barkley’s horrible score into perspective, Barkley must have scored double bogey or worse, netting -2s, on at least 47 of 54 holes. And Barkley’s woeful finish came amid video evidence suggesting he has been putting in work to fine-tune his infamously ghastly golf swing.

But on the course, that did not come to fruition. Not in the least. To wit:

Oof. Turrible.

To be fair to Barkley, though, the NBA on TNT analyst knows full well that he’s not a good golfer, which makes sense in light of the fact he faced comically long odds at winning the tournament. Watch what Sir Charles had to say on Friday about his game and the prospects for success over the weekend.

“I am choking like a dog,” Barkley admitted. Indeed.
