Former Pistons Veteran Hits NBA Buyout Market

With the NBA’s buyout market continuing to add new prospects, a rebuilding squad in the Western Conference made another player available as the San Antonio Spurs agreed to a buyout with Marcus Morris.

Now, the former Detroit Pistons forward is set to search for his third team this season.

When the 2023-2024 NBA season fired up, Morris was a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. While he spent the previous four seasons with the Clippers, Morris did not suit up for them this year. Eventually, he was packaged in a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.

This year, Morris appeared in 37 games for the Sixers. While 30 of his appearances were off the bench, the veteran forward collected seven starts while averaging 17 minutes on the floor. During his time with the Sixers, Morris averaged seven points and three rebounds while draining 40 percent of his threes. 

As the 2024 NBA trade deadline approached, Morris was moved in a three-team deal between the Indiana Pacers, Sixers, and the Spurs. Although the 34-year-old Morris was routed to San Antonio, the 12-48 Spurs decided to give Morris an opportunity to join a playoff contender. Weeks ago, it was revealed that Morris was eyeing a potential partnership with the Minnesota Timberwolves. 

At this point in Morris’s career, he’s played for seven different teams, including the Pistons, for a two-year run. In Detroit, Morris was a full-time starter in 159 games. During his short stint, he averaged 14 points, five rebounds, and two assists while knocking down 35 percent of his threes. 

The next team to scoop up the veteran will gain somebody with playoff experience, as Morris has 67 postseason games under his belt. His first playoff run came during the 2015-2016 season in Detroit when the Pistons played four games before losing in the first round against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Since then, Morris has had postseason runs with the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers. Soon, the league will find out the veteran forward’s next move.
