Hornets’ Miles Bridges turns himself in to police, released on bond following arrest warrant

Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges turned himself in to police on Friday in response to an arrest warrant being issued for the NBA player, according to reports. Bridges allegedly violated a protection order that resulted from a domestic violence case in 2022.

Bridges apparently turned himself in to authorities in Lincoln County, just outside of Charlotte, and was accompanied by his attorney, according to ESPN. He made an appearance in district court and has since been released on a $1,000 bond.

He and the Hornets were in Washington D.C. for a game on Thursday but Bridges didn’t play as he is suspended. The warrant was issued on Jan. 2, according to reports, and only recently was served. Bridges also has yet to be served a criminal summons for allegedly violating a protection order, misdemeanor child abuse and injury to personal property on Oct. 6, per ESPN.

Bridges is on probation for three years after he pleaded no contest last summer in a domestic violence case. That plea allowed him to avoid jail time. He was subsequently suspended by the NBA.

Bridges agreed to a plea deal last summer to avoid prison time

Bridges dodged prison time by accepting a plea deal from prosecutors in his criminal case that resulted in three domestic violence charges stemming from a May incident where Bridges assaulted his then-girlfriend in front of their children. He ultimately pleaded no contest in a Los Angeles court to one count of felony domestic violence as a result of the plea deal.

The other two charges were dropped, and Bridges will be on probation for three years while also undergoing counseling, parenting classes and being subject to drug testing. He cannot own any guns, ammunition or dangerous weapons, according to an ESPN report on the plea deal.

By pleading no contest, Bridges is not contesting the charges while also not admitting guilt. He originally pleaded not guilty.

Along with those restorative punishments for Bridges, there is a protective order in place for 10 years between him and his then-girlfriend Mychelle Johnson, whom he attacked. They retain joint custody of their children and visitation or passing over custody must be done through a neutral third party to comply with the protective order.

He will also have to pay a few negligible fines.

The former Michigan State basketball star was formally charged with felony domestic violence and child abuse after the June 2022 incident. According to an ESPN report, the incident was the second in a span of two days and occurred in front of the couple’s two children.

Bridges was arrested for domestic violence in Los Angeles on June 29, 2022, after police responded to an incident involving “intimate partner violence with injury.” He was later released on a $130,000 bond.
