The PGA Tour has reportedly received an investment from a rather surprising group of individuals. Headlined by basketball superstar LeBron James, iconic rapper Drake, and Hollywood heavyweight Chris Pratt, this new group of "strategic investors" is injecting additional capital and charisma in hopes of expanding the tour's influence and appeal.

Per The New York Times, James, Drake, and Pratt are among those providing a fresh influx of funds for PGA Tour Enterprises, the tour's new for-profit entity. This news comes on the heels of the announcement of a deal between the PGA Tour and Strategic Sports Group that injected $3 billion into the new entity.

Adding the star power and influence of these names is certainly a win for the PGA, especially from a marketing standpoint. Much has been made recently about the tour's ability, or lack thereof, to capture and entertain the modern fan. Having a trio of individuals who have demonstrated the ability to do just that in their respective fields is at the very least something that can be considered a useful skill brought to the table as the PGA Tour looks to adapt into a more modern era.

James and Drake are no strangers to working with each other on other sports-related investments. The two high-profile names previously invested capital into the Italian soccer club AC Milan. And according to what Drake told The New York Times, it seems as if he can't wait to get to work on his newest project.

"Golf can be so much more than a sport. I remember some of my best childhood memories was being on the golf course with my uncle. It’s one thing to invest in a team, but to help reimagine one of the biggest leagues in the world is an incredible opportunity and I’m excited to be a part of it."

With this surge of new investments, the PGA Tour is undoubtedly entering a new era.
