Los Angeles Lakers: Darvin Ham Reacts to Anthony Davis’ Blunt Take After Game 2 Collapse vs Denver Nuggets
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The last thing the Los Angeles Lakers need right now is an internal rift. But is there one between Lakers big man Anthony Davis and the team’s coaching staff particularly head coach Darvin Ham?

It can be recalled that Davis said after LA’s 101-99 loss to the Denver Nuggets last Tuesday that there where phases in the contest in which the Lakers didn’t seem to “know what we’re [Lakers] doing on both ends of the floor.”

When asked about what Davis said, Ham didn’t seem to be bothered by it, as he came to the defense of his staff.

Via Dave McMenamin of ESPN:

“I mean, I just think sometimes when plays don’t turn out the way you think they should, then the frustration sets in a little bit,” Ham said. “But I don’t think it’s [from] us not being organized. I think I have incredibly talented coaches all along my staff. We pride ourselves, whether it’s a practice, a shootaround, a film session, a game or whatever, we pride ourselves on being highly efficient and organized. I just chalk that up to being frustrated. It’s an emotional game, the way it ended and all of that.

“But I’ll agree to disagree on that one.”

In any case, Los Angeles is in desperate need of a win in Game 3.

The Lakers are at a point where they can’t afford to lose their next game. Although they are only down 0-2 in their first-round series against the Nuggets, a loss this Thursday night at home would virtually eliminate them from title contention, as no other team in the history of the NBA has ever come back to win a series after losing the first three games of a series.
