Magic Waive Bol Bol; Mavs Sign After JaVale McGee Trade?
USA TODAY Sports

As the Dallas Mavericks continue their big-man search on the trade market, one young, interesting center just became available on the free-agency market.

According to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Orlando Magic have waived 7-foot-2 center Bol Bol after he spent just one season with the franchise. In 70 games for Orlando last season, Bol averaged 9.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks while shooting 54.6 percent from the field in 21.5 minutes per game.

As things currently stand for the Mavs, adding Bol to roster wouldn't make much sense unless they find a way to trade one or both of JaVale McGee and Richaun Holmes in the coming days. And according to Yahoo! Sports' Jake Fischer, that outcome could be a possibility based on Dallas' previous interest in Bol.

"Had heard the Magic were looking at dealing Bol Bol dating back to the NBA Draft," Fischer tweeted soon after Bol was waived. "Two teams mentioned were Phoenix and Dallas, but the Suns have flushed out their veteran minimum centers. Wonder if Bol could be in the Mavericks’ plans if Dallas can find a deal for JaVale McGee?"

Bol certainly wouldn't be the answer to the Mavs' need for a veteran, starting center, but he could potentially be a good, young project center with high upside for Dallas to add to its stable of centers ... again, if they're able to move some of the current guys out first. The idea of Bol has been better than the actual reality of Bol so far through his four NBA seasons, but count us in as wanting the Mavs to give him a shot based on the kind of production they got from McGee last season.
